Gone off track All German Car Interiors look the same. Except they don't

Audi hasnt changed its interior design language in donkeys years, the A4 has the same vents and position of its HVAC controls as this 1980 Audi 100 C2.

I must say that the C2 Audi 100 dash still looks relatively fresh. My dad owned a 1979 1005E that he purchased from an Audi employee (Jahreswagen) in 1980. It succeeded his 1975 Ford Granada GL sedan. He loved that Audi.

The Audi 100 C2 was a very likable car. My uncle also used to own a 100 5E in 1983 and what I can remember it was a very comfortable and spacious car with a massive boot. The seats were covered in a really nice feeling and warm light green velour which made the seats exceptionally comfortable and the car had a soft riding suspension, which made it a nice long distance cruiser.

Yes and no. If you look at them historically they have evolved drastically over the years, from model to model. Only recently they have become more alike, but still distinctive for each models. You can still tell apart a 3 series interior from a 6 series. Same with Audi models and MB. The only problem I see is that they share some of the same components. Like vents, some switch gear and etc. That makes them more alike than before.

In terms of who is doing it best I have to rank the premium 3 this way.

1. Mercedes-Benz
2. Audi
3. BMW

Disagree all you want, but BMW's interiors, both nowadays and back in time looked ancient compared to Audi and Merc. They just look outdated in my opinion. The buttons and switches always felt cheap, the screens were big ehhhh both design wise and in terms of practicality. Now I'm speaking only about the 2, 3, 4, 5 series, i3, i8 and X3 through the years. Can't say anything about the rest as I have zero experience with the rest of the BMW range.

I got recently a 13' C7 A6 2.0-litre Tdi. And it's interior is far superior looking and feeling to a comparable age 5 series. Yes, 5 series maybe would have been more fun to drive, faster and etc, but it's interior design and quality is inferior to Audi's from my experience.

However I can't give the win to the Audi overall. Their recent shitstick with touchscreens all over the place make the interior look less distinctive from model to model. It also less practical and one of the reasons I avoided newer A6s.

I give the number 1 spot to Merc. They have distinctive interiors, way better placement of touchscreens, better quality and nicer materials overall. They win in my book as they have the most quality interiors and timeless interior design.

Edit:
Forgot to place Porsche in 4th. Their interior quality is great, but the design evolution has evolved from plastic, to plastic with screens. Same design language and placements, just modernized.
