Well, how many hatchbacks have they had? Im only aware of e36 and e46 compacts. Maybe some when i wasnt even bornBMW have had hatchbacks as far back as the 1970's, it's hardly a new form for them, then there were the 3 series based Compact built in the 1990's.

One of the selling points for me on a 4GC or the 3GT would definitely be the lift back. I've had two cars: a 4dr sedan and a 5dr hatch and the hatchback has proven to be so incredibly useful/practical over time. I'm glad to see cars like the Panamera, A7 and Tesla gain popularity here in the states.
This comparison would have been better if they compared the 3 series saloon/3series touring to the 3 GT and 4 GC and left the X4 out.
I can see that BMW just want to try and fill every market niche they can think of, maybe next model they will introduce is a 4 series SB (shooting break) with 2 doors!!! The 4 GC is a sexy car for sure, but I think the front of the car they could have done more to differentiate it from the 3 series saloon. From side view the front of both cars looks pretty much the same. I think the 3 series still looks very sporty in M-sport trim, I like the boot as well and same time I like the sleek hatch design of the 4GC. I would have to check them out in real life parked together to give my final verdict on the looks.
As for the X4, it sure is not a pretty SUV!!! I like the design of the back of the car but the front looks terrible. I would rather take the Macan, much prettier design for sure.
