AutoBild: E 550 vs. A6 vs 550i - comparison pictures

I think we are all making too big a deal out of three cars that all have good interiors one way or the other.

Keep in mind that each company also has a distinctive style and approach when it comes to interiors. Audi designs modern and futuristic interiors that make use of a lot of silver (colors) and aluminum. BMW interiors tend to be functional, a bit bland in most regards but also sporty. Mercedes also prefers a functional and conservative approach. I think these philosophies are easily detected in the respective interiors.

I still think the 5 is looking pretty fresh, the overall shape of it might be a little outdated, compared with the W211 Eclass, it made the 5 looking not as "smooth" but next to the new E, apart from the roofline looking a bit dull, i would believe it is not a 7 year old model. The interior, after the facelift, well it think it doesn't look inferior to the new E at all, the new E surely have more gadgets, stuff like illuminated trims etc. but the layout, the general design, well at least i don't see anything that's superior in the Eclass.

Audi - well, that rear is nice but i would've thought it was an A5 or A4, being 99.9% identical, who cares. Interior is just the same old Audi interior, so again, who cares. the next A6 comes and it will be again 99% identical. Put a picture of the previous A6 interior here and i'm sure some wouldn't notice it's old. <-- a joke.

The Audi interior is a clean, simple, understated and unpretentious design. It makes me feel cool, calm and composed (whereas the BMW interior makes me angry).

Interesting. I concur. Though I must add that I don't get angry with/at BMW's interior. It just excites me, which may pass as anger.

Links were not working so I corrected them. :usa7uh:

Can anyone translate the test from Autobild comparing the midrange diesels :t-cheers:

The E-Class in the above pictures looks terrible in my view. It looks like an American Camry, the whole thing looks like it's designed for the North American market in fact. The previous generation was far better looking. The champagne colour does nothing for it either.

I have to say I agree so far.

Judging by the pictures above:

Front end wise I say the A6 wins, with the Bimmer coming in last.

Rear end and rear-side I'd say M-B comes in last.

Interior.... I dunno, I almost like the 5'ers over the new E-Classes? I'm sure the E's has a richer touch and better materials as M-B's usually do IMO, but design wise it's a close one....

Side profile IMO it's a toss up between the Benz and Bimmer, but the 5 looks more fluid and organic to me, my eyes tend to want to study it more even in leu of the M-B being newer to them.

Why did they put the crease where the hood meets the fender on the E-Class right in plain view going down the side of the fender? Breaks up the cars look so much IMO and just looks fumbled and clunky. :t-hands:

Sad to say, but I actually don't car for any of them "exterior wise". I would have probably picked the Benz, but Mercedes boxed it up. I've always hated the look of the current 5 series and the Audi never excited me at all.

Interior wise...The Audi looks the best. Engineering....The E-class. Ride quality...The BMW.
