Big Sam's New Renault 5 E-Tech

Highway Hunter
I'm revealing the new car I teased a month or so ago. My new Renault 5 E-Tech (150 PS), which I collected yesterday. The trim level is 'Iconic Five', which is the highest of the three main ones, so you pretty much get everything included. It has the biggest battery (52 kWh). The colour is Arctic White with the matt red roofline, and black roof. The interior is yellow, which is the only one you can get with the Iconic Five trim level. The rims are the 18" black diamond cut option.

I love it so far. Fun to drive, and feels like a bargain for what you get. The colour combo looks superb. I do like the Pop Green and Yellow Pop colours, but this pearlescent white with the matt red looks classy and sporty. Unfortunately the colour doesn't look accurate in photos.

I'll be driving it from southern Holland to the north of the UK in just under one month, a journey of about 800km, so it'll be good to see how easy long distance driving in a "city" EV will be.

The main take away for me is that compared to some modern cars from the German big three, it feels like Renault have built the best car they can for the budget, as opposed to building the cheapest car they can get away with.

Awesome spec, awesome car. Glad you didn't go for the Alpine.
Congrats. I'll get you a baguette for the holder!

This car's got more soul than the newest Mini.

Thanks. This is one of those rare cars where less is more, so I briefly pondered the Alpine but decided this was the sweet spot.

Congratulations! Nice car, it does look fantastic in white with the black roof and yellow interior.

Congratulations on your new car, Matthew!
FWIW, I found the design to be sensational and a truly desirable car, regardless of the badge.

Enjoy it safely!

Betty, you're a bellend.

How could you not tell us about your new sports car?!?

It must have slipped my mind.

Anyway, the rear axle steering was a waste of money, and it feels a bit underpowered with only 1hp (one human power). And it's the last time I let my children choose the colour. Red and yellow does not go. On the plus side, the interior feels more premium than the average modern car, and no sign of shiny black plastic anywhere!

Magnificent.

Your insights into real ownership are among the finest on the internet.

Jokes aside, I mean that in all seriousness too.

Congrats and good luck with your brilliant looking and compelling electric French car. I hope it works as good as it looks.

Look forward to your updates on the ownership experience.

I missed this thread. I spot this car weekly. Mainly in blue or yellow. Never seen a white one.

Belated congratulations. How does a shirt wheel base EV feel to drive compared with larger EVs?
