6 Series BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe First Drives/Reviews

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. It is the successor to the E9 Coupé. The first generation BMW E24 6 Series was available solely as a two-door coupé and produced from 1976 to 1989, when it was supplanted by the larger BMW 8 Series (E31). When the 6 Series nameplate was revived in 2004 for the second generation, the BMW E63/E64 6 Series, the coupé was joined by a convertible body style. The third generation F06/F12/F13 6 Series debuted in 2011 as a coupé and convertible, and a sedan variant known as the "Gran Coupé" in 2012. When the F06/F12/F13 6 Series ended production, the "Gran Coupé"/coupé/convertible models shifted into the more upmarket BMW 8 Series (G15) nameplate. The fourth generation 6 Series, the G32 6 Series, debuted in mid-2017 and is offered only as a fastback body style to complement the BMW 5 Series (G30) sedan/wagon.
Imagine if the 6er GC is the 5er and the 4er GC is the 3er, what a special brand BMW would be, really truly sports orientated, great shapes, who cares about rear headroom.

Customers. Almost all of them. ;)

If 4erGC was 3er & 6erGC was 5er, both would sell in such limited numbers as the GCs.

We are talking about the two most important BMW models in portfolio here: 3er & 5er!

Low sales @ same price = loss. Simple as that. BMW would be a dead meat. In five years. Or even earlier if they implemented the scenario you had suggested.

And its also very market/country specific were these different types of niches excel or then not. The new CLA for instance could sell like hot cakes in the US and not much to very few in most other countries.

Exactly. The niche markets are very much regionally specific. In some markets such niche cars sells a lot, while in others the sales are extremely poor. That's true for all niche models, incl eg roadsters & cabrios. Look at the Tourings: extremely popular in Europe, while in US the sales are very poor. Same goes for eg GTs, GCs, SACs etc - the sales are not proportionately distributed around the world. Eg. the 5er GT: almost half of 5er GT total annual sales is done in China! While eg US sales are almost non-existent.

Good visuals but otherwise a very underwhelming review. The reviewer mentions that the M5 and M6 are heavy and not exciting to drive, yet the M6 GC which is pretty much the identical car is the "Ultimate driving machine" with out mentioning what it does right that M5 & M6 do wrong?

Curious to see if other journalists will share the same sentiment.

Other than being a good video in terms of filming quality and driving footage, the tester is an amateur IMO.

I thus purely enjoyed the video for the visuals at that:D
Must say I am hardly ever entertained by testers, there is but not even a handful of testers reviews I pay attention to.
