BMW is gearing up for the addition of yet another model in its rapidly growing lineup, the 1- or 2-Series sedan that is/are being previewed by the Concept Compact Sedan at this week’s Auto Guangzhou 2015 in China.
current 2-Series Active Tourer models and the next generation of the 1-Series hatchback, possibly offering BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system as an option.

Visually, the concept incorporates BMW’s current design language with chiseled surfaces and a bold front, with a silhouette that splits the difference between the more conventional 3-Series and the sportier 4-Series Gran Coupe in a smaller package and with a longer front overhang due to the drive layout.

It’s not clear if BMW plans to develop a single compact sedan or two different proposals in the segmentfollowing the example of the aforementioned 3-Series and 4-Series GC, but as of now, we’ve only caught the Germans testing what is believed to be a 1-Series Sedan and which looks like a softened-down version of the Concept Compact Sedan study pictured here.

“The BMW Concept Compact Sedan reveals the potential we see in a compact sedan,” said BMW Group design boss, Adrian van Hooydonk. “It not only gives the driver and passengers generous amounts of space within a compact area but does so while providing the sporting ability you’d expect from BMW and an elegance otherwise only available in large BMW sedans. The quality and intrinsic value of the BMW Concept Compact Sedan are clear signals of our premium intentions for the car.”

BMW was coy on what powers the car, but a front-drive production model would offer similar engines to the 2-Series AT, including a range of transverse, turbocharged three-cylinder and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel units.

That front overhang on a BMW sedan is just awful. It's simply disappointing that BMW needs to introduce this line of FWD models.

It looks good, quite sleek profile, but I don't like the long front overhang and short rear overhang. The front lights remind me of the pre FL 1 series lights but this car it is better executed.

^^ Yep that overhang and having the front wheels nearly at the front doors is the price you pay for FWD. Even BMW couldn't hide it here.

The X1 suffers from the same problem.

I don´t think it looks bad at all. In fact, I am still prefering the headlights not linked to the kidneys. Plus, the rearlights being linear and not L-shaped look cool as well.

The only problem is, as happened with the CLA concept, A3 sedan concept, and 2er GT concept, that all the FWD concepts look far betten than the production version:

I will post live pictures later.
But again this concept is in the 90% range for production exterior and interior. It carries over the specific three dimensional character line you would expect on a BMW Sedan.

They need something to compete with the A3 sedan & CLA, in many markets like Russia people prefer sedans to wagons and hatchbacks, by not offering this they are gifting sales to Audi and Mercedes.

I just love the rear quarter view, front looks familiar yet elegant and then oh-my! The side profile is totally spoiled by the FWD architecture with that dreadful overhang - KIA :D

that is the biggest problem. the 2er Active Tourer would look so much better with a hood reaching the kidney grill. when i take a closer look at the spyshots, the 1er sedan will have the same problem...
