M5 BMW M5 (F90) - Spy Pics & Info

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

At the risk of sounding a bit "solomonic":

I would think that the new M5 and W213 E 63 AMG (S) are so close in the sum of their respective technological attributes, that a conclusive, decisive verdict stating which car is actually "better" will be exceedingly difficult if not impossible to attain. The perception of aesthetics is quite subjective.

Were I a "shopper" in this particular market segment, I trust that making a choice between the two cars would be an almost tormenting task at hand. I suspect that I may lean towards the E 63 AMG sedan-in a darker, glossy metallic hue (greens, blues, iridescent anthracites) with matte silver or bicolor alloys. It would strike me as being a wee bit less...ummm..."ostentatious".

I like it but it just doesn't get me excited, I was expecting more than this. The front air intakes look too similar to other M models, not much different to the regular 5-series M sport models either. The rear looks a bit better than the regular M-sport as it doesn't have as much of the ugly black plastic. I do like the front seats, they look amazingly comfy and supportive at the shoulder level. Engine cover looks funky with the different BMW M colours. Steering wheel is a major disappointment as it looks like the regular BMW M-sport wheel, only difference is daft looking small red buttons for the M modes. I am still not sure about the wheel design.

On the whole it leaves me cold, I am slightly disappointed, in my opinion it lacks the aggression and excitement of the E63 S.

But you're an MB fanboy so it doesn't matter.

I will wait til the official photos to be released before I make any comment on the exterior. As for the interior, these M5 badges on the headrests looks quite tacky.

@klier:

...but somehow, this never gets "old" :D

People human don't likes anything
Even they show you similar face of brad pitt
And car with 10000HP and different design of your hopes you will say why is like this the brake desk should look like tom cruise not like this.

Better than F10,worse than E39 and E60,underwhelming.

I'll wait for the real reveal, but looks wise I so far agree. E39 and E60 were more special. But it's better than the F10 no doubt.

Lets hope the performance and drive make up for it.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Anyway, this is a disappointment. I'll add this to the (small but growing) list of BMWs where I prefer the equivalent model from the competition.

Isn't that a bit premature?

Well, if I was in the market for one of these, which I'm not, then I'd need to drive the M5, AMG and RS 6 before making a decision. So it is premature in that respect. I think the RS wouldn't get a look in as it's so old now. I do seriously like the AMG E 63 though.

Looks-wise, I don't think higher resolution photos are going to make a difference. It just looks dull to me. Maybe I'll feel differently when I see it in Frankfurt.

I know the M5 has always been subtle, but they've always still looked aggressive. The E39 and E60 looked perfect to me.

Klier as exterior they said long time ago that this generation wont be so different then the F10 the next 5er will be the biggest different.
If you are following the thread all the time you will know this.

In my opinion
All that i wished for was in the leaked photos.
But still waitinf fot the official reveal
Because i know i will find something i didnt see it in the leaked.

Think I prefer the B5... though I have to be honest, I'm not really sold on the styling of any G3x based 5 series models.

I don't know what else people were expecting from this though, of course it's predictable - it's based on a car we know, with the same things being changed that are always changed. We know how current M-performance parts look, and this was never going to be much different. It's also been teased heavily, and leaked months ago, so we all knew what to expect anyway.

... that said, I'm struggling to think of any car in the segment that wasn't equally as predictable when launched.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
