X3/X4 BMW X3 (G01) - Spy Pics & Info

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.

The F97 X3M was benchmark testing against the G01 X3 M40i. Appears the F97 X3M continues the recent BMW Trend of reduced/limited/none “M” Signature Flared Wheel Arches. Looks like M2/M3/M4 were last full “M” vehicles to get both front/rear Flared Wheel Arches. No more XM Flared Wheel Arches?? Looks like F90 M5 got only Front ‘’M” Wheel Arches.....Accountants win again??? Thanks. Palbay

No I am basing it on spy photograph info.

What a load of rubbish. You can't tell anything with such small tolerances based on spy photos. You must think people are stupid to fall for this.

I know the track will be wider on the G20 because that's what happens when a new generation is launched. It's a little bit bigger!!

Yes and if you look at head on shots both front and rear compared to the F30 you can see the arches are wider on the G20.

Ah, now you're saying something different. Now you're saying the ARCHES are wider, when originally you were talking about the TRACK.

Nice deflection.

I hadn't really noticed, but have the X5 or X6 M's ever had (more) flared arches? I don't think they have had, but I could be wrong.

No deflection. In order to accommodate a wider track the body would be wider. This can be accomplished by additional enhancement -The M3 Sedan it is also why your M4 Coupe does not have any enhancement because the standard car is wide enough. Same for the M5 at the rear as it will be for the G20 based upon the spy photographs.

No. The X5M and X6M broaden out by thicker tyres. The X3M shot by Palbay is on the M40i wheels. But it will gain bigger tyres to make up for false enhancement.

No, you're talking about two different things. Your first post, and the one to which I initially replied, said the "track" would be wider. Well guess what? Every 3 Series has had a wider track than the previous 3 Series. What matters is the track in comparison to the width of the main passenger cell. A bigger difference results in the appearance of WIDER ARCHES.

So you were talking about "track" when what you meant was "arches". You then subsequently switch to talk about "arches", which is why I said you were deflecting.

Hell, the G11 7 Series has a wider track than the F80 M3, but it doesn't appear to have wider arches.

And I am talking about in order to accommodate a wider track the arches need to be wider or else you end up looking like the rear wheels of a truck. You can't have one without the other. In case of newer BMWs the designers give the cars especially at the rear a coke bottle effect so that the wheels don't completely stick out and for the M models a very powerful solid stance.

The standard X3 already has a wide stance. So additional bulges would look more cartoonish.

Wide stance with an equal wide body above it results in wheelarches like the 2er coupe and 4er coupe: absolutely the wrong way to go, and quite franky incredible to be greenlighted by a company that made (and still ocassinally does; M3) some of the best wheelarches on cars.
