Comparison tests CAR ZA: Super Saloons Performance Shootout 2014

yeah I know what you mean, its almost as if they sort of have (and this is a long shot I know) .... more grip?

I'm not entirely sure it is all to do with extra grip, there's lots of cars with huge amounts of grip yet scare the sh1t out of you none the less. I reckon it's probably the breakaway of grip from either end being very progressive is the key.

Sure, and that is actually amazing that the RS7 still was faster, since it's the "ultimate driving machine" and normally BMWs are faster on track. So, different times now. Kudos to Audi, for not being only fast in straight line anymore.
Well it has awd, so on this track it has huge advantage, so no surprises here. And GC is more enjoyable to drive, which is way more important than straight line speed (to me), so i have no idea why would you idolize a blunt instrument like rs7 so much, unless you are just inlove with the design

For the record, no one is saying RS7 is bad car. It's a great car and I wouldn't mind driving one.

Have you driven the rs7? How would you know that it's just a blunt instrument providing no enjoyment?

I've driven the rs7 myself. Which is why I ask,and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not like the fun had behind the wheel of a BRZ. But in the manner of how the car picks up speed, just how effortless it is,makes it a unique experience. Haven't driven m6 gc,but if pure enjoyment is what you are after then why waste money on a big luxury barge anyways.

^^Too true, you don't buy a two ton monster with the desire to have a sportscar experience. BTW it does make me laugh how people dismiss something without experiencing it.

Age old argument. One says this car is dull the others say if you want thrill buy something else outside of this class. I guess one can't expect thrills within the class and have a "slower" car. Straightline speed is it I guess.

Because in some cars your destination is your goal, and in others, the goal is the process of reaching it. Great acceleration is very fun, but you get used to it, however the car that you feel, even if it weighs 2 tons is a whole different experience and it doesnt matter how much you drive the car. For the record i dont think that 6er is a particulary very good drivers car, even in its own segment, but if i had to choose rs7 or 6er, i would pick latter for more driving envolvement and lose couple of milisecs in accelerations. But the biggest worry for me would be suspension of rs7, in couple of tests they say that its uncomfortable and in this kind of car its borderline untolerable.
And pure enjoyment is not a reason to buy 6er gc, but just like pure acceleration cant be the reason to buy rs7

^I agree ride quality is an overrated necessity by some but long term it makes the ownership experience much more enjoyable. If there's one failing of Audi is their pursuit of body control has come at the expense of ride control and as I continue to preach all these cars are far more comfortable when you stick with the standard rims and the RS6/7 is no exception.

That's why I would take RS7 any day, because it's uncomfortable like a sports car and more special than M6. I'm not that old and that I would need couch on wheels or when I will be that old and sore and I would take some big Mercedes, it's even more confortable.
couch

If you want something uncomfortable and fast why rs7 then?
And how is it more special than m6?
