There was some old automotive saying that combined all the qualities cars from different nations have. I believe the French were listed as being innovative.

In a way, that's true. Citroën suspensions, Renault and Peugeot automatic transmissions in small cars during the 1970s -unheard off during those days.

This isn't a generalization, but you have to admit, passion and Toyota don't really mix well.

Passion and Japanese culture don't really mix well, should I say.

Toyota doesn't have the same kind of depth as European car makers which have developt their brand over a hundred years now. Toyota is doing this in a much shorter time. One new move is their Toyota Europe Desing Development studio (ED2) which is located near Nizze, France and where most of their designer are actually Europeans. They are taking the bits and pieces from the Japanese culture which foreigners find positive and they stress those elements in their design. In my opinion the new Auris looks really good and one of their designers says about the desing filosophy behind it, is like a freshly squeezed orange juice. It's a everyday routine but still it's refreshing and always an enjoy.

Italians = design
Germans = engineering
French = innovation
British = interiors
Americans = power
Japanese = value

True, Italian cars are often noted as being passionate in design etc. German cars do have their own form of passion one way or the other, even though German cars are more noted for engineering. BMW and Porsche are about the passion of driving for instance.

True, but the Toyota's designed for Europe are ugly if you ask me. The Toyota Aygo for example is a styling disaster. You can't praise the Peugeot and Citroën versions either (in terms of style), but I think the bland VW Fox for example looks a million times better than the Toyota Aygo.

The only Toyota that looks nice is the Avensis.

French has no innovation the last ten years and the british automotive industry is near to its end. At last, german = engineering
