Caymans, Boxters and Cayennes are somewhere else.

All Caymans and most Boxsters come from Uusikaupunki, Finland. Cayennes come from a plant in Leipzig, and I believe Carrera GT's come from there as well.

Naaaah, why did you post pictures of yourself sitting inside the 911, making me all jealous:D. Anyhow congrats man and drive carefully.

:t-cheers:

Dude, I'm so jealous of you right now. I would have LOVED to do that! I'm trying to convince my father to get a car that shows his status as a successful lawyer, but he really likes going for cheaper cars. If he had his way, cars wouldn't cost more that $30,000 :(.

Thats cool that your pops let you drive the car too! Thanks for sharing the pics. I hope to do a Euro delivery some day of one of my cars in the future.

That must have been a great trip! I remember when I went to the Dingolfing just outside Munich where they make the 5er and 6er! It was very impressive, and I got to see the 6er before the press pictures with out any tape and a bodyshell of the converible, but again no cameras allow!

So how's your 911 going?

Just curious, they let you drive there with your U.S. license?
I'd love to drive on the autobahn one day :D

Yea, all I have is a US Driver's License. They didn't even ask to see it at the Porsche HQ, they just asked me to sign an insurance form haha.

So I took this cross-country road trip with my father after the Porsche arrived stateside...this was over a week ago...but I never got around to posting pics..

Started in Chicago and drove all the way to Seattle, took us like 3 days, stopped in Minnesota, saw some Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park amongst other things...

~Couple of pictures going through the Badlands....we taped up the front of the Porsche to stop stone chips and bugs...

Probably wasn't a good idea to get out of the car to take a pic...that wasn't me....

~WOW! It was scorching driving across Washington State. Another cool feature in the 911 is the integrated phone system, we could plug in a SIM Card and it would be integrated through the System in the car. We had better reception than with our regular phones.

The Carrera S was a dream to drive cross-country, even with the Manual Tranny in 6th Gear, no problem passing other vehicles with all the power.

A couple times I was driving in constant switch backs going through the mountains for sustained periods of time, grueling, but a good time to test my abilities and the utilize the awesome handling of the car.

Enjoy!

You guys were an MB dealer??? Where at? Wow, good for you. Sounds like it was an awesome experience. I have been to the BMW factory in Dingolfing which was amazing if I do say so myself. Thats an awesome car you drove. Has it arrived back to U.S. shores yet?? I did a Euro delivery of a 745i in munich where we took it to 130mph+ speeds...such an awesome experience...Congrats on the new car.

Wow, bad luck with the cops. Did they pull you over for nothing, to check out the car, or because you were actually getting busted?

As for the tape.. that's funny! Did it work, though? Are there cars in front that would spit rocks up? There seems to still be plenty of area around the front where there isn't any tape.

Anyhow, glad you enjoyed the trip! I love driving cross country as well. Keep on enjoying the car.

Looks like you had a good time, the car looks good!

Thanks for the pictures!

I didn't know you had a G55, how good it that car?

Wow theres alot of questions...

Well, this is the follow-up trip from the Euro-Delivery Trip. That was back in March, this update occured like 2 weeks ago.

Used to have a Dealership up in Northern Michigan, surprised you know that Matt.

That cop caught us speeding....got us at 94mph, that was after my dad hit the brakes.

The tape thing didn't work as well as planned..some of it flapped off, we had to remove it. It worked a little bit, but we should have covered alot more surface area on the hood...poorly executed plan but it was sort of funny. After we washed it the car looked fine though :-D

Our G55 is the NA one, not the Kompressor.

What to say about that, its alright, good for hauling stuff around, but we don't do that very much. It drives like an SUV, not like a Car akin to an ML/X5/Touraeg. Hence the handling and steering leave something to be desire but who cares when you're driving a G-Wagon right? Good punch though, but it loses speed fast because of all the mass, you gotta keep your foot down into the pedal.

Interior is a mix between the old C-Class and S-Class, so some parts are sort of 'cheapish' other parts of the interior are very nice. Its a cool vehicle to have overall.

WHAT?!?! 55 engine from AMG is a NA engine??? Sorry, but i'm confused...

The 55 engine comes in two guises: NA and Kompressor. The NA version is found in the SLK55 AMG, the old CLK55 AMG and the C55 AMG, and at one point in time, the G55 AMG.

The Kompressor version if found in all other AMG models: E55, CLS55, S55 etc.

I must say, that Porsche looks beautiful! Not too fortunate with the cops though. I must ask though, what's the difference between a european delivery and just buying it from a Porsche dealer?

BTW, regarding this 'one man, one engine' policy. To the best of my memory, I believe that the engineers who used to build the engine actually signed their names on the engines, much like the AMG factory. However, customers realised that some engines were producing more power than others - this led to potential customers requesting a particular engineer to build their engine. In the end, Porsche decided not to put the engine-builders names on the engines to prevent this 'special request' from happening from then on. Just an interesting story, I thought.
