As many of you are aware, WorldCarFans.com is now known as Motor1.com. The newer forum members might not be aware, our forum began way back in the forum section of germancarforum.com, the first incarnation of WorldCarFans. The forum became an independent website when GermanCarFans became WorldCarFans. At least that is how I recall it, @admin can correct my mistakes and elaborate on the stories of this forum's journey to now.

BY BRIAN POTTER
WCF was acquired by Motorsport.com Network with the intent of launching a new automotive global platform called Motor1.com. With WCF as the foundation plus the far reaching resources and experience of Motorsport.com, Motor1.com is positioning itself to be a formidable force in the online automotive space.

Re-energized and ready to tackle new challenges, I will continue my editorial role with Motor1.com and will also help oversee the global expansion of regional offices into many new countries. It is a privilege for me to be involved in such a huge project with so many talented people.

And now we have come full circle. As one door closes, we give a fond farewell to WorldCarFans.com. The passion and enthusiasm it represented was merely a reflection of you, its loyal readership. Its success would not have been possible without your time and attention.

But yet, another door opens and I implore you to give the same passion and value in Motor1.com. After all, it's still the same editorial team producing the same quality content you have come to know at WCF. So please stick around and let's take this experience to new heights.

Sincerest thanks and gratitude.

Since they killed the forum, i didn't think they brought much to the table when it comes to internet automotive media.

But then again it wasen't worse than any other..

The quality of the site has deteriorate for quite some time, having said that there are worse ones out there. I just want to know the events that took place just before and after this forum separate itself from germancarforum.com.

From what I recall, Brian stated that he just didn't have the resources (time) to moderate the forum section of the original GermanCarForum, so it would be closed down. It came as a surprise to many of us, but due to the strong community spirit that we had, we were able to (mostly) stick together and migrate to this new site.

Brian's decision was right for him (and his team) because obviously they've gone on to bigger and better things, but it did leave a bit of a source taste in my mouth how the forum wasn't worth keeping.

I do think some form of acknowledgement of this forum, in his farewell post, will be nice.

Going from Germancarfans to Worldcarfans was the first major error. They should have kept their niche and be done with it.

Which was nonsense, because there's moderators for this very task, just like here on germancarforum.com. No time or resources needed.

That garbage isn't worth mentioning.

They do have the occasional scoop from time to time, and their car show galleries usually are top notch too.

But yeah, garbage for the most part. Just like Worldcarfans to be honest.

I used to go to GCF (and WCF) so often 10 years ago then I suddenly stopped, and honestly, forgot about it. Here's wishing them the best of luck in their new venture.

my first port of call used to be GCF and then WCF as said above. These days.. it's less and less
