XC70 First Drive: 2008 Volvo XC70

After the 2011 model year, Volvo discontinued sales of the V70 in North America, instead marketing the FWD variant of the XC70. As with previous generation models, the XC70 features increased ground clearance, optional all-wheel-drive and some cosmetic differences from the normal V70.

Steering effort, of all things, also can be adjusted by the driver, though it's still too light for us even in its heaviest setting. An ongoing dialogue between the steering and the driver's fingertips does not appear to have been a priority here. Nevertheless, this is at least consistent with the dynamics of the rest of the XC70. Even with the adjustable Euro dampers turned up to their most aggressive setting, the ride is rubbery rather than harsh.

That's basically Volvo's biggest problem. Steering is shit. After 2.5 years of Volvo ownership i can see that it can be very very annoying some times. I can't see why they can't correct it.

About the dampers/rubbery feel, it's Volvo. These cars are meant to be confortable not sport. IMO they shouldn't complain. If you don't like the comfort character of the XC70 go buy an Allroad Quattro.

I saw this car a couple of weeks ago. Looks like a freaking toy, too cluttered, plastic cladding all over the exterior. The A6 Allroad looks ten times better.
