Mustang From Spied to Official: Ford's electric Mustang Mach-E

All names with little to no equity; well, negative equity with the Pinto. This turns the Mustang into a subbrand and achieves the task of introducing something completely new while still making it seem somewhat familiar.

That being said, I find the connection to be a bit unnecessary unless the Mustang name is going spawn more models.

I was confused...
Thank you, I had not noticed, not being an English speaker, I always understood and saw! as "match" I even read it like that, I just realized, maybe because match does have translation to my language, and mach means nothing, the brain is complex.

Does it have any meaning for you or does it just sound nice?

It's controversial and get's people going. Muscle car fans are turning into keyboard warriors as we speak. They will test drive it just to bash it, quickly realise that it's not a Mustang but it's a good electric car for either themselves or their partner.

Ford are trolling and they know that the name will get headlines and pull consumers into dealerships to have a poke.

^Stats not bad, but not exactly cutting edge either.

As for the name, silly to try make any connection from a BEV crossover to a storied muscle car. I don't think they are fooling anyone and all they are doing is muddying "Mustang" name.

They should have gone with "Model E" to rub it in Musk's face since he wanted it or "Model U" as in successor to Model T.

Must say initial impressions are very disappointing.

I only discovered Ford we’re making this model two days ago.

Some of the renders were stunning. Turns out to be a copy and paste of the Tesla Model X. Even down to the central iPad.

How exciting.

Better than what I anticipated when I first heard Ford was building an electric mustang SUV.

It matches up pretty well with Tesla's forthcoming Model Y in terms of price and performance.

Mustang?
But this one will electrocute spectators at a cars and coffee than run them over :D

Those door handles look incredibly unsafe in case of an accident....

The whole car looks kinda cheap to me, but I appreciate the effort. Why on earth would you call this a Mustang though? It looks more like a Buffalo.

I find applying mustang motifs on a BEV to be silly. Personally, a thundering V8 engine is so engrained in what is a prototypical Mustang, I just don't see the appeal without. Conversely, I see a BEV as forward-looking I don't want the retro appeal of what is purported as bygone era. Applying retro pastiche tends to work on smaller BEV cars, i.e. Honda e, because the car its alluding to wasn't a muscle/pony car, such as a Mustang, but an eco car known for its miserly fuel mileage and sprightly chassis.

But what do i know about marketing.

From pillar B backwards it is similar to the Tesla, I don't know, I see it a bit generic, perhaps in person the general set be more impressive
