Holden General Motors kills Holden.

Holden, formerly known as General Motors-Holden, was an Australian subsidiary company of General Motors. Founded in Adelaide, South Australia, it was an automobile manufacturer, importer, and exporter that sold cars under its own marque in Australia. In its last three years, it switched entirely to importing cars. It was headquartered in Port Melbourne, with major industrial operations in the states of South Australia and Victoria. The 164-year-old company ceased trading at the end of 2020.

And sure enough John Cadogan uploaded his opinion on the matter.

Typical GM modus operandi. They mismanage a company and then asks for a bailout. Government bails them out and then GM comes up with a range of cars that nobody cares. When the company fails again, GM shuts it down and shifts the blame onto the government and consumers.

Anyone with half a brain would have seen this coming after GM sold Opel and Vauxhall to PSA. What surprised me back then was why GM didn't toss in Holden to sweeten the deal? Holden has one of the biggest dealer networks in Australasia, much bigger than PSA, much bigger brand recognition as well, now no more Holden.

This must also be the end of Supercars, without Holden it's just Ford, there is no point to the series anymore.

Aren't they thinking of putting the Camaro up against the Mustang?

Camaro production ends next year, Holden were a big supporter of Supercars, with Holden's withdrawal from the market then there is no reason to continue with Supercars.

A shame such an old and autochthonous "Australian" brand, but the point is that it does not sell too much in his native country

Useless management, short-sighted and incompetent to say the least. Barra is only concerned about share price because compensation of the CEO is directly dependent on that. Complete faile.

Toyota, Honda, Geely, etc everyone else can make a profit in Australia, but somehow GM cannot - what does it say about the management? Considering they gave up on Opel (and Europe by extension), and now Holden (and SE Asia - Thailand, etc) and that they're already out of Russia, S.Africa, India, a non-starter in latin America - that leaves only China and north America. The day SAIC decides they don't need GM, 55% of remaining volume is gone. GM will be a US only domestic automaker with a falling marketshare. Wow - what an end to a once glorious world-leading automaker

This is truly shocking stuff. Why doesnt GM rather sell Cadillac than Holden? Cadillac is a shit brand that is a failure in the luxury segment while Holden has been churning out fantastic grunt rich V8 muscle cars for many years and were popular in Oz and made a name for themselves in UK also a decade ago for providing great bang for buck cars.

I think that's pretty obvious, Cadillac sell well in the US, Holden couldn't give away a free shag in a whorehouse, simply put what they offered the market did not want. Holden had a larger market share in NZ than they had in Australia.
