C-Class [Hot!] 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63S (W206)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a series of compact executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 (W201) range, the C-Class was the smallest model in the marque's line-up until the W168 A-Class arrived in 1997.

So how do the old V8 models compare to the new half V8 model?

No surprise there. Somehow I’d still take a last model 63 coupe. Or, the black series from the model before that.

Same with me, that C63 Black Series is a beauty and sounds so sweet with the roar of the V8.

This article from Car&Driver posted on August 4th 2023 suggests the V8 will make a return around 2026 in the C63 and E63 sedans.
That would be around face/lift time for the C-Class. A year or two later the W214 E-Class. If this happens AMG should leave the E-Performance kit off the C63 and keep it RWD.

AMG boss: ‘we have lost V8 customers’

► We speak to AMG boss Michael Schiebe
► What AMG learnt from the new C63
► And how it’ll inform the new wave of EVs

Downsizing the engines of performance cars is never a crowd pleaser, but few decisions have proved quite so unpopular as Mercedes-AMG ditching the C63’s V8 and replacing it with a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid.

Affalterbach could have gone down the six-cylinder route, as BMW and Audi have done with their respective BMW M3 and RS4 rivals, and AMG has found other hybrid solutions on different models. But for the C63 it opted for a hybrid with the same cylinder count as your typical C300e company car, albeit a much more complex and powerful powertrain.

In reading that, Schiebe really doesn't seem to get it. There is no amount of explaining that will make people what a 4-cylinder C63. WTF is wrong with him? I really hope he is saying this shit in order to save the few C63 sales that they have, just in order to buy some time until the facelifted V8 car arrives. He can't be serious about staying the course with this 4-cylinder. If, in his words, you've lost some loyal fans and the car isn't selling then you've made a mistake. I gotta believe he's just saying this to buy time.

One can only hope. Sometimes you have to tow the corporate line, because while Scheibe is saying this, Ola has just sent a letter to the EU asking for leniency on the shift to EV.

All these things go through PR so it's close to impossible to get the honest truth out of execs.

This guy doesnt know anything about what his customers want and only believes that their crap decision about this 4 cylinder is the right one. What a tool he is.

Schiebe admits the PHEV has lost AMG some loyal fans, but believes it was the right choice for the car. ‘The C63 is a very important car in our portfolio. It used to be, it is and it will be. We decided with the current version to really go for the latest technology. We wanted something new and that’s why we put the F1 powertrain into a street-legal car.

‘We see that some of our very loyal customers struggle a bit with the concept. Of course, no doubt we have also lost some customers who are just into V8s,’ he concedes. ‘You need to really drive this car. It’s a very convincing product.’

If the C63 is that important then they should have done the right thing before bringing out this car and actually ask existing C205 C63 owners whether they would be interested in a 4-cylinder PHEV C63 to replace their current V8 car. Now they probably have lost all their existing potential customers who owned the previous W205 V8 model.

He even says this is an F1 powertrain, when an F1 powertrain is a V6 engine, which is superior to a stupid 4-cylinder in the C63!!!

I don't know if he's being entire honest, or if it's just gone through the PR washing machine. There's only so much executives are allowed to say. I imagine he's been given a bit of a gag to tow the company line at least externally.

We will see come facelift time. I can’t believe anyone within Mercedes actually believes this nonsense. He’s just keeping the 15 customers who’ve already bought happy and keeping the 5 other intenders interested till they can get the V8 back in there.

Generally, destroying the residuals of your own product is not a smart business strategy. Even if you know why its failing.

Correct. Now watch the song change if they bring back the V8. That said the residuals on the car are dead already. No one wants it new so I can’t see it being sought after used. The complexity is scary even to me and I own a W140.

I imagine the objective now is to clear the inventory before they can refresh it. IF they refresh it, that is.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if they simply retire the C63 and replace it with a hybrid 6 cylinder C53 with a bit more juice (say 525bhp total output to differentiate it from the E53).

I'd rather they save the pure ICE V8 for an E63 Black Series swansong a la the M5 CS.
