Ioniq 5 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a battery electric compact crossover SUV produced by Hyundai since 2021. It is the first product to be marketed under the Ioniq sub-brand, and the first model developed on the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
Funny , the Ioniq 5N has functional side vents , while AMG GT has fake ones....

Almost every journalist love it!
Like they matter....

Yea , it's a fun quirky car , pretty bold and capable

But it still does not sell that good...

It had a record March , with 3700 sold in the US , a 100% increase YoY.

While 100% increase would sound great , when you compare it to 37000 Model Y sold , it's peanuts...

I doubt the 5N will double the sales number , again.

IMO , the UI is a big letdown. The rest , is pretty great

I'm not entirely old school, but also not progressive enough to want an Ioniq 5 N. It's too far toward PlayStation for me with all its modes and sounds and fake gear changes. As subjective as this statement may be - for me, it lacks authenticity in a way that a BMW or Porsche electric car doesn't. Then again, it's just an uniformed opinion as I've not driven one.

You really should try one - you won't regret it.

It's crazy fun to drive, and so damn weird at the same time. Sure doesn't feel authentic - but do you care? I certainly didn't! I really do think this is a step in the right direction for EVs.

Couldn't stop smiling like an idiot when driving around in this thing.

Honestly, I didn't get much time with the car. And while having it at my disposal I was too busy driving around shiftin' gears lol.

But from what I gather the infotainment is not quite there; and the range is not that great either. Neither is the efficiency, but who the hell cares when it drives like it does. You have to take it for what it is.

When charging, if I recall correctly, it peaked at around 270 kW but then it dipped significantly. So with it being a pure EV it isn't the best - but it certainly does combine a certain level of sportiness with being a daily that few other EVs are able to match. Maybe the Turbo and/or GTS feels better but I haven't driven those.

The roads here in Norway are decent, but with the speed limits here, spirited driving is hard to come by. I'm not one to push the limits on public roads either..... So dynamic- and chassis-wise I have neither the experience nor the expertise to really comment.

But as have been said a gazillion times on the internet; this car is damn fun. It really is. Currently I'm looking at buying a Taycan to complement the e-Tron. But honestly, this makes me think a bit. A real winner IMO.

Exactly what any EV buyer cares about an EV....

Who would buy this car just to drive it on the track? Few to none...

If you think about the Taycan , I find it very hard to believe that you would think about this.

Wanna bet that you would not buy this 5N?

Not that Taycan would have a better infotainment or (much) better efficiency , but because it's a Porsche at the end of the day...

Here your statement is that range and efficiency is exactly what EV buyers care about...

... yet you realize there are EV buyers who don't care about better efficiency given that for example it's a Porsche? Respectfully, am I missing something?

No, I would not get the N over the Taycan - never said I would. But the N was so much fun that "bang for your buck"-wise, it does make you think a bit. Not sure what's not clear here. Of course it's not as exciting as owning a Porsche.

Making you think , does not mean that it influences your decision?

You want to be "politically correct" , but let's be fair , there is no thinking between Taycan and 5N...

Cars are not toys. At least this mid market. People don't buy 5Ns or similar to drive it on the track.

They drive it every day , with the joy of having some fun from time to time ( a blast from a green light ; up to the speed limit , of course ) .

Again , this is not according to me. But according to the number of cars sold

Ioniq 5 is not selling that good . 5N for sure will not bring much more to it.

This are facts. Not me.

If you , a guy that likes the car , and had the opportunity to drive it , noticed that the range is not that good , imagine a potential buyer ... That is far more objective than a casual test driver...

And for MAXIMUM effect, judicious use of capitals helps too.
Yea , it offends idiots . And it's lovely.
Just say that a Tesla's the best option
Exactly. 37000pcs sold vs 3700pcs sold are the proof.

The market dictates what is good or not.

The rest , can cheap talk any day, anytime...

PS: I'm kidding. Just a cheap response for a cheap post....

On the subject of efficiency :

Ioniq 5N get's an absolute awful efficiency .

Doug's car had a 1.8mile per kWh.
Edmund's car had a whopping 1mile per kWh ! That is bloody awful ! Even hard driven !

For non-EV drivers , for comparison , in my 800hp aluminium trash can ,the most I had was 35kwh/100km(many Ludicrous launch). Far bigger trash can than 5N

1mile per kWh translates to 62kWh/100km !

Yeah ok I understand I might have to rephrase that for you: I wasn't expecting this car to be this good and so engaging to drive at this price point, it caught me by surprise. Does that make sense?

Politically correct? What does that have to do with anything?

They drive it every day , with the joy of having some fun from time to time ( a blast from a green light ; up to the speed limit , of course ) .
Bingo. So why do you keep bringing up tracking? You keep contradicting yourself. You don't have to track a car simply because it has paddle shifts.....

Again , this is not according to me. But according to the number of cars sold

I'm sorry, what does sales numbers have to do with the car being fun?

As for the whole "range" argument btw: Consider the new electric G, do you really think range is of primary concern? No because the target audience is different. This is no different.

I currently drive an EV with the most sh*tty range ever, rated at about 400km. In Norway it works and it's still a popular car. Go figure. Is it for everyone? Certainly not, but it works for me.

I'm gonna do a last reply , just for the gigs.

You did not say "it surprised you" , you said that "it made you think for the future purchase of the Taycan"

Currently I'm looking at buying a Taycan to complement the e-Tron. But honestly, this makes me think a bit. A real winner IMO.
"I'm LOOKING at BUYING , BUT "

That BUT , with the added "MAKES ME THINK A BIT" , is an argument for WAITING for the PURCHASE.

This has only one meaning. Either you are bipolar ( not as a insulte , btw) , either you like to be interesting for no particular reason.
I'm sorry, what does sales numbers have to do with the car being fun?
Did I said something that is wrong about this car being fun to drive? Don't tergiversate my words.

I pointed out the sales numbers in 2 cases:
1.Just as a gig to some random troll around here
2.When Centurion said that every journalist loves it. And I said that it does not matter who loves it. It matters who buys it.

And that is a fact. If this car does will not sale well , it remains what it is : A toy....

Fun toy? Yea , of course . But just an expensive toy.
As for the whole "range" argument btw: Consider the new electric G, do you really think range is of primary concern? No because the target audience is different. This is no different.

Who buys a electric G , has at least 1 more car in the garage. Range is the least of their problems.

And the electric G clientele is nowhere near Ioniq 5N clientele.

But since you've put electric G and Ioniq 5 in the same sentence , makes me think...

Have a nice weekend. Cheers

Yes you're right.

Yes you're right.

That was the best response.
Can't argue with idiots, but I guess that much became clear by now for you.....
Anyways, it's always great to see Kiki get owned so much without having to put any effort in it yourself. What a lovely start of the weekend.

Thanks for the write-up on the ionic N. What a stunningly wonderful EV this is, I am dying to have a go in one.

Well, they said the same about the Nissan GTR when it came out like 10 years ago. Playstation was one of the keywords. And look how that turned out; there GTR itself has become an all time icon, and the concept (AWD with big ass turbo engine) has become the de facto standard.

So what I am trying to say: we both have to go drive one! We might like it more than the RS4 you just experienced.
