F-Type Is Jaguar F-Type the next Porsche 911? Owen Mildenhall and Chris Harris help answer this question

The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater sports cars manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque from 2013 to 2024. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the E-Type.

What is the Jaguar F-Type? According to the Red Camp, the F-Type is a beautiful muscle from Coventry. According to the Blue Camp, on the other hand, the F-Type is a very good-looking skin, designed to cover up almost 1800 kg of out-dated, by today's standards, technology. The truth is not easy to find out, so we will leave this to Mr. Owen Mildenhall from AutoExpress and the famous Chris Harris from Drive. Both videos are available after the jump, but let us sum up the two journalists' arguments.

Owen Mildenhall compares an F-Type V8-S with a 911 Cabrio 4S around a track coming to the conclusion that "these two sportscars are like chalk and cheese. The Jaguar is noise, grunt and powerslides, while the Porsche is about poise and precision". As it is expected, while he says that both are fantastic in their own way, the 911 is the obvious choice if one wants to be fast.

Going one step further, Mr Harris adds an Aston Martin V8 Vantage in the comparison, as he feels that it's closer to the F-Type than the 911 is. Comparing these three cars (this time the 911 is a Carrera S Cabrio, as opposed to Carrera 4S) in both B-roads and the track, he concludes that the Aston is the fair looser, being the oldest car of the group. Interestingly enough, he states that it actually doesn't feel that old and has quite a good appeal to those that are after a beautiful small N/A convertible. The 911, according to CH, has an amazing chassis for a convertible, and the steering, even though it is electric, has the best feel. After praising the 3.8l 6 cylinder boxer engine, he praises the handling, as being the most superior of the three convertibles, thus picking the 911 as the winner. As far as the F-Type is concerned, he hints to the weirdly high weight, deciding that the F-Type is an English muscle car. It's raw and will easy oversteer, as opposed to the tremendous grip of the 911.
