Comparison tests Jaguar XE vs Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs BMW 4er Gran Coupe

The problem with this forum the many member are so close minded and biased it's hard to take anyones opionions seriously... I'm significantly more opened minded than most people here,

Ah, there you go, lesser denizens of GCF, Kiwirob, previously just the bastion of objectiveness, has now proclaimed he is also "significantly more opened minded". So it has to be true. So cast away your lesser non-serious close minded opinions and accept his very serious ones.

A thread of biased forum members complaining about auto journalist bias...

I like the 3er as much as the next guy (well, as long as the next guy doesn't have a bone to pick with BMW...you know who you guys are ;) ), but I fail to see why the XE can't be on par or even surpass the 3er. Except for the interior, the more I read about the XE the more I think they did a great job with the XE.

I'd still opt for the 3er (or comparable Giulia, sight unseen) over the XE though, stubborn S.O.B. that I am.

I really think this is an honest and unbiased test. The XE is shaping to be a serious and valid alternative to the usual more mainstream German trio..my pick here for sure.

I would just like to go on the record and say that I am an equal opportunity pessimist. I dislike all new cars until they prove themselves to be good.

To be honest, I think this whole damn segment is crap right now. But what really blows is that all the cars that are filling the space left by the compact-exec class going upmarket, are FWD. With the exception of the 2-Series, which is just hidiously overweight.

If I were given a large some of money with the condition that it all had to be spent on a new car in this segment. I'd buy them most expensive one, sell it, and buy an E46 330i ZHP or maybe an E90. I wouldn't even care if I couldn't pocket the rest.

Ive driven the XE, and i cant say this test is BS! Jag made a very nice car indeed to drive with. Just test one...

This is one of the best head to head comparisons I have seen from MT, quite informative.
The BMW 3-Series is a fabulous car to drive no doubt. (I was sold when I test drove the previous generation, it was outstanding!) Every German car fan should get to sample this car at some point.

Looks like Jag has a winner in the XE. I might be taking one out for a test drive sometime.

The body of the BMW looks better imo. The interior of the 3-Series also looks more developed, refined and easier to use than the Jaguar. There is always going to be some trade off.

This Jaguar reminds me of Mitsubishi Lancer from the front. The car maybe great but the design is not. IMO.

The German trio are very strong in this segment along with Lexus in some markets. I don't see a generic looking Jaguar putting much dent in this segment other than the British market, maybe. The new C has beautiful interior and immaculate build. The exterior look much better resolved following the lead of the S class. BMW has the image and the persona and a bold exterior design and Lexus has the best numbers in terms of lowest defect rates. I wish that jaguar would have done better in terms of exterior design. Its not the best interpretation of its design language. And yes the Audi has the new A4 and with a beautiful interior.

Looks like C class outsold 3er in the UK market for the first half of the year, I reckon this is the very first time in C's history.

Hatchbacks make up eight of the top 10 vehicles sold in the first half of 2015. And, once again, the Ford Fiesta tops the best-sellers' list. Not bad for a seven-year-old model:

  • Ford Fiesta 71,990 sold Jan-June 2015
  • Vauxhall Corsa 50,125
  • Ford Focus 45,078
  • VW Golf 38,261
  • Nissan Qashqai 34,501
  • Vauxhall Astra 29,966
  • VW Polo 28,980
  • Audi A3 25,765
  • Mercedes-Benz C-class 24,676
  • Mini 23,455
Mercedes, whose C-class muscled into ninth place in the UK, announced a new global sales record of 898,425 vehicles delivered in the first half - a rise of 15%.

Why not use the 3er or indeed wait to drive the LCi?
It has the feeling to rush to cement the XE is the best car in the segment even though the competition revival is just on the horizon.

Wow really so all magazine needs to hold off tesdting current products so that BMW can bring in it's latest and greatest. It doesn't work like that in the real world, plus there is piss all difference between 3er and 4er, if anything the 3er would have faired worse.

Jeez @KiwiRob, you didn't know that the universe revolve revolves around Bavaria? I could have sworn that was common knowledge.

Really, what differences other then the design and lower seat position?
According to my own experiences is that 3er and 4er drives very similar and not much separate them on public roads.

Did you actually read what I said "piss all difference" which means not much difference at all, which you agreed with after you disagreed with me, Swedish people can be very confusing sometimes.
