Yes. But it's supposed to be so - since it's a niche vehicle, and pricey: an additional model in the 5er model line. Therefore not addressing masses, and their needs.

But I had compact premium hatch in mind. The only one now selling is Audi A3 SB, and the sales are not great. Therefore Audi are thinking about offering A3 instead in the future. BMW & MB decided not to bring compact hatches in US since there is no enough demand for such cars.

But Lexus is a strange & specific beast in US market ... They sell FWD cars like ES & HS etc. Having different image & status than BMW & MB - since offering such US specific models as well.

But ... the hatch is - according to Lexus - aimed at Euro customers. And I predict a fail.

Regarding US sales ... IMO HS will sell much better, and hatch sales will be tiny compared to the sales figures of other Lexus models.

Unlike BMW, I doubt Lexus will set a ludicrous price on it. I'm pretty sure it will be cheaper than the 1er, and that will effectively put it in the 25K range at which I'm sure it will sell well.
