Maserati's new GranTurismo Sport has been launched at the Geneva motor show - a new model designed to replace the outgoing GranTurismo S.
The engine is a development of the fabulously vocal 4.7-litre V8 already found in the current 'S', with peak power rising from 440hp to 460hp. This same engine will also be used in the hardcore MC Stradale GranTurismo.
It will be available with two gearboxes, a six-speed ZF automatic or a six-speed electro-actuated 'box, with dry twin-plate clutch. European LHD markets will get the first cars, which are expected to go on sale in June with the incoming MY2013 GranTurismo.
When fitted with the electro actuated gearbox, the faster shift times (down to 100ms) and increase in power enable the GranTurismo Sport to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 300km/h. The fully-automatic version isn't far behind, and with new MC Auto Shift management software, can achieve a top speed of 298 km/h, hitting 100km/h in 4.8 seconds.
The suspension has been tweaked but not changed substantially, now using an updated version of the Sport Skyhook system previously fitted to the GranTurismo S and Quattroporte models. The system offers a Sport mode which sharpens the car up, while normal mode allows for more comfortable cruising.
In addition to the mechanical changes, 'Sport' models will feature a revised front bumper design said to improve both engine and brake cooling without increasing drag - but, to our eyes at least, does little to improve the looks of the car itself. Other changes on the ‘Sport’ include a new steering wheel design, better front seats, new front LED running lights and lightly smoked taillights.

This car for me is still like the 2nd or 3rd best looking car on the market today. They finally have given it some comfortable looking seats. This car defines lust.

For me it is always the best looking 2 door 4 seater. I like the interior update but I prefere the normal front bumper. They claim this new one to improve brake cooling and engine intake but I do not see it funtional as all the black part is covored and is not a grill. I'll see on Saturday. It would be nice if the infotainment system was also updated and it got a true high-end soundsystem like B&O. The optional Bose Surround-System is crap for such a car. It should also have gotten LED front blinkers, and LED reverse light. But well...

Looks very good but getting old imo..

How long is Maserati producing the Gran Turismo?

It is funny we are thinking the same thing. I wonder what gives us that impression. Could it be that this car is so rare or because so many version are introduced? I feel the same way for all Aston Martin models. Maybe we have this impression because performance wise so many cheaper car are faster, and because these cars have "old" infotainment systems if to compare with iDrive, MMI or Comand. Today these are the thing that make a car new just as with computers we have to upgrade every year for more powerful ones with updated systems.

This has always been one of my favorites, but there's a couple things about it that I feel are letting it "sag" a bit, i.e get "old" faster than such a clean and nice design should. Namely within the side profile.

Couldn't agree more with you. Exactly what i thought. :usa7uh:
Me too, prefer the normal front bumper, so this makes me wondering that do they really eliminate the "regular" Gran Turismo from the line-up? Because i like GranTurismo S not just for its Sporty looks but also the elegant Italian style that it had with that chrome window frame.. This Sport version erases that elegance factors by just being sporty like MC Stradale.

Agree again with you. :usa7uh:
These are some factors that make this car looks old, but i think maybe the design of the car itself that makes us get this impression. And maybe again, we've already seen this car contenders like the new 911 Carrera S or M6 that look much more modern in term of design and infotainment system. So with the old design with no LED front blinkers & LED reverse light, old infotainment system, & crappy audio support, no wonder this car is getting old fast..
How long is Maserati producing the Gran Turismo?
Maybe about 8 years like Ferrari's life cycle. If i'm not wrong, they introduced this car in 2008, so maybe the new one will be in 2016..

Even tough the looks is getting old, but its sound is so.. :icondrool:icondrool:icondrool
IMO, compared to Porsche, Bentley, or Aston Martin, Maserati still has the best engine/exhaust sound of all.
If i have the money, i might be buying this car mostly because of its sound. So freaking sexy! Amazing!:usa7uh:

Starting to get long in the tooth?

That is a remark we only here about Maseratis. Such a pity. If the GTS was performance-wise on 911 Carrera S level, and quality/raliablity also on Porsche level, we would never hear such remarks and this car would not be considered overpriced. Really a pity because IMO it is the best looking 2+2 Coupé.

2018 Maserati GranTurismo will be a RWD coupe with "serious V8 power"
Characterized as a "fully focused driver's car"

Maserati boss Harald Wester has shed some light about the next generation GranTurismo.

Scheduled to come out towards the end of 2017, the overhauled GranTurismo will be sold exclusively as a coupe because there isn't a market large enough to justify the GranCabrio's existence, even though the model is very popular in United States according to Wester. The new GT is being characterized as a "fully focused driver's car" which will offer "serious V8 power, not to mention a cascade of low-end torque."

It will be sold only with a rear-wheel drive layout and promises to be "nimble, agile, responsive" while a V6 engine could be added to lower the GranTurismo's starting price which will boost sales. Based on a report which emerged back in December, the V8 engine will adopt a twin-turbo layout and will have a 3.8-liter displacement, enough to develop more than 550 bhp (410 kW).

Another reason why there won't be a new GranCabrio is because the upcoming 2016 Alfieri will also spawn a convertible which will be considerably cheaper. Until then, Maserati will launch the Ghibli-based Levante crossover programmed to be unveiled later this year, possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

There’s only one way to say this so I’m just going to go ahead and say that this is one of the hottest cars to ever come out of Italy.

And to clarify, this isn’t just any version of the GranTurismo (a car that’s absolutely stunning in and of itself), but the MC Stradale – a much more track oriented animal.

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale features a new front splitter and rear air dam for improved aerodynamics, downforce and cooling of the carbon ceramic brakes and engine. The mods add about 48 extra mm (2 inches) to the car’s total length.

It also sits closer to the ground than the regular GranTurismo S and on top of that it will also max out at 303 km/h (188 mph), which is pretty impressive.

In terms of acceleration, the MC Stradale will hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds – which to be fair isn’t mind bending anymore but it will surely get the job done.

As for the looks, well, this was already one of the world’s best looking coupes so the fact that they strapped on a set of Vossen Forged VPS-306 wheels is even more of a good thing. The VPS-306 series wheels are the same ones we saw on this Mercedes AMG GT S, except that in a different color.

Bottom line, what’s not to love about this car? It’s got the looks, it’s certainly fast and most of all it will get your heart racing once you start revving its naturally aspirated V8 engine. It’s one of the world’s best sounding power units.
