Very true. On pricelist, the Macca is 2000 € cheaper than the Ferrari, but these are the base prices. If to the Macca you add ceramic brakes and all the CF parts, that lighten it by about 35 kg, the price will be much upper.

The engine sound in the Macca is very disappointing. 458 sounds so much better. Top on that 458 look so much better too.

The MP4-12C in test has the cramics brakes as noted in the text:
"Go in too fast and the optional carbon ceramic brakes (£9,770) provide immense stopping power..."

Amazing how
  • this McLaren is in top performance spec (Corsa R-compound semi-slicks, ceramic brakes)
  • McLaren claim "ground-breaking performance in all areas...being 'as good' as everyone else is not enough"
  • McLaren clearly benchmarked the 458 and no doubt bought one to test the claim before final release of the MP4-12C

Yet, the 458 on regular tires outbrakes the McLaren. I'm assuming these figures were all gathered on the same day.

I don't think ceramic brakes necessarily reduce brake distance. If anything, when cold, it probably increases the braking distance. I think their biggest advantage is the reduction in the unsuspended/rolling mass and probably better fade resistance. Or at least that is what I read about GT3 RS - the word is the steel breaks are better for the track use while the ceramics are better for street (cause they last longer).

If AutoExpress do it right, these braking distances will be for warm brakes. German mags do show cold distances, but will describe them as such. The 70-0 distances in US mags like C&D are an average of 5-6 panic stops done in rapid succession.
In any case, both cars will have been on ceramics so neither has an advantage in that regard. The McLaren still has the advantage of benchmarking an available car (while Ferrari did not have that luxury), plus the air brake.

McLaren 'aims for Porsche owners' - Autocar.co.uk

...I really believe that nobody has sincerely believed it ;)

I'm not sure that link says that they are not likewise targeting Ferrari owners, and that info seems centered around the US market. What it says is that perhaps Porsche are missing out in the jr supercar segment; they have nothing that is really unique in that segment (GT2 RS is too limited, and based on relatively pedestrian 911). As a result, they have been receiving more interest from current Porsche customers rather than Ferrari customers; there are more of them anyway. As a result, this could lead to a shift in marketing strategies in the US. McLaren may look at that gap in Porsche's lineup and may be targeting that as an option for those buyers to step up. It's not like the demographic is totally different: both appear to favor engineering efficiency over the flair (and perhaps questionable robustness) of Italian products. Not everyone enjoys the tactics that Ferrari dealers employ to guarantee exclusivity (building "relationships," right of first refusal, etc). I think it's clear that with McLaren's proposed lineup (consisting of a lower model, plus a hypercar contender) there will be a more direct Porsche 911 competitor in the future.

Guibo... The Macca has tried to persuade us they snubbing of ferrari, saying "we aim to clients of porsche." a "little dig", failed

Are you basing that on only that short article (which actually says nothing of the sort)? What I see there is the possibility that they are receiving more attention from Porsche owners than anticipated (perhaps moreso than Ferrari owners), and are revising their marketing strategy to suit. Nowhere does it say they didn't build the MP4-12C with Ferrari as the benchmark. I don't see a "dig" in there at all. I also don't see your denial of a 911-competitor in the works. It would be pretty dumb of McLaren not to consider the clients of Porsche. That's a big market, with 20k in new 911 sales last year. More than 3 times Ferrari's total number of all cars included. Why wouldn't they want to appeal to those clients?

even so, there's no JUST ONE magazine with a cover " McLaren Mp4 Vs Porsche", but all with "MP4 Vs 458" ;)

It makes sense. McLaren benchmarked Ferrari. Your Autocar article says nothing to the contrary. Let's face it, Ferrari is the most recognized car marque in the world. "Ferrari vs [insert other car name]" probably sells a lot more copy than anything else. This has been the most anticipated matchup between obvious and stated rivals (in Formula One too, remember) for the past year.
Even then, that didn't stop a Porsche from somehow ending up here:
Drag race: McLaren MP4-12C vs. Ferrari 458 and Porsche 997 Turbo

The new engine of the Mecca seems to be able of 626 hp. I read it on Evo Italian mag. This thing should be interesting.

Rockingham
Mercedes SLS AMG 01:33,10
Audi R8 V10 01:31,06
Mc Laren MP4-12C 01:30,10
lamborghini Performante : 01:29,92
Porsche 911 GT2RS 01:28,78
Ferrari 458 Italia 01:28,30

something here is wrong: magazines writes every time "Mp4 is faster and has more grip than 458", but @bedford and Rockingham 458 on latest Pilot SS wins...
but the suripris is not the 458, but the MP4 slower than a Gallardo LP570 spyder "performante"... :o

Whatever, the super car battle is the most interesting topic in the years to come. The Ferrari came first, and all others are going to try to beat it. The McLaren failed, even with all their promisses, then there comes the new 911, the new Gallardo, the new R8, the new De Tomaso Pantera, and the new Lotus Esprit, that Lotus claims to beat anything out there, both the Macca and the Italia. Can't wait!
