While the 5 -Series is a drivers car while the 7-Series is a vessel that completely removes you from you road noise, bumps and wind noise. It offers superior levels of comfort, relaxation and serenity to the 5-Series.

The 5 series is not a smaller 7 series.

Well, I've yet to experience that. In a few weeks time I'll be driving a G30.

Great. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. don't get me wrong, the 5-Series is a nice car but out of all BMWs I have driven, the 7-Series's comfort levels are exceptional.

All my friends who got a ride in it were blown away by the silence and the way it smoothed potholes and how calming its headrest pillow were.

A bonus worth mentioning is the cavernous boot. It fit our big pram, baby bag and shopping bags.

Hey Mick my view and personell off course is that going from a S to any of the other car you will find a downgrade.You seem to do so much mielage and you must spend a lot of time in the car so I think you need the best you can get or afford.

S class face lift is definitely the way for you as it is in my opinion a level above any other car in its class and then add to the extra additions of a face lift will bring will make a Super car even better.

It's only one car in my view a S class face-lift or even maybe a new S class pre face-lift might be a option if you get a top deal.

If space is no issue what about a S coupe or the new E coupe ..let me confuse you more ha ha..

Mick: mind that the 7er has air suspension and therefore comfort wise is closer to the S than the 5er. If price is no issue than I would go for the 7.

The 7 also has different seats and insulation, which further adds to its driving characteristics. Despite its size, surround view cameras makes it maneuverable in tight spaces.

If you don't need the space then I would get a e class or 5er but they won't drive like s class like thats for sure. You drive so much Kilometers and should buy what your heart and your right foot desire.

You can't really go wrong with the 5er at the moment.

Looks very good. But the G11 7er with the M Pack still has the edge in terms of looks IMO.

A very similar case than with the E39 vs E38 back in the day.

G11 7er offers much more comfort than G30 5er. Hands down. While 5er is a lot more agile & nimble. It depends what you need & prefer.

I have driven all 3 of the cars and a E class.

Two choices it's the S or 7 or the 5 or E.

I think the S is in a different league and with the kilos you do and I am sure it's a lot of highway cruising the S is the king of this unless you want to buy a Bentley or a Rolls you won't find better then a S class.

The 5 is not as good as a 7 and the E is not as good as the S.

I have a feeling when you see the S face-lift all your answers will be answered .

Maybe go for the S FL, as it will have all the latest engines and tech. Then possibly think about a 7er LCI in around two years?

When I bought my A8 D4 a couple years ago, I've test driven 7er and S class w221 FL.

MB was looking old and drove like a big boat, liked 7er exterior but inside was boring and almost the same as 5er and drove like big 3 series.

I also though that Audi is too soft and unimpressive until I've stepped inside and drove it. Best tech, build quality and driving dynamics among the other two at that time. However is going to be hard to beat the W222 this time.

Maybe the more powerful 740d will make you smile and is better price option.

Stick with the S-Klasse one way - either keep or go to FL - or another. I have the feeling it's more you, Mick.
Whilst I absolutely love the new 7er, I feel that it lacks the outright gravitas and sense of occasion of an S-Class. Instead, the less stately 7er seems to portray a less elegant yet more dynamic persona. In terms of absolute quality and solidity, I also reckon there's nothing between the two. Whilst the S-Class has outwardly appealing interior trimmings and surfacing, I personally don't feel that it has any more of an impression of unimpeachable build quality than the 7er. Said, another way, the S-Class simply exudes more feel-good factor on the inside without necessarily being screwed together any better. Others may disagree...
