Geometry E With 401 KM Range And 81 HP Starts From 13,000 USD In China

The Geometry E is a small EV crossover from Geely Holding. It has a hip design, 81 hp, and batteries for 320-km range and 401-km range. It was launched in China with a price range between 87,800-104,800 RMB (13,110-15,645 USD). Now Geometry showed the E at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Auto Show. It’s a great chance to get to know it better.

Let’s start with a design of Geometry E. It looks hip with a continuous running light unit, square-shaped high beams, and a fuzzy bumper. From the back, it has quirky rear lights and a sporty spoiler. From the side, the E is bulky. But it has a sloped roofline which is a nice touch. Geometry presented a top-trim level at the show. We can see it from a color scheme with a black roof. But it still has some cheap details, like a lot of grey plastic around the body.

As we can see, the car at the Auto Show has tiger stickers on its body. It is a reference to a previous name of the E. In February 2022, Chinese MIIT shared this EV’s images. In them, it was called ‘X Thunder Tiger’. But later, Geometry decided to change its name. As a result, they’ve come up with the ‘E’. But they still maintain marketing related to tigers. For example, in March 2022, Geometry shared pictures of the E in a yellow camouflage with orange stripes. So it looks like Geometry stick with these tiger-related things.

Inside Geometry E, we can spot tigers again. They are on the floor mats. Yep, those tigers are everywhere. But let’s look at the rest of the Geometry E interior. If you don’t know it is based on the old, petrol-powered Geely Vision X3, you will never tell it. The E keeps things simple and modern here. For example, we can see the twin-screen setup with 10.25-inch LCDs.

The center tunnel has a rotary gear shifter, a parking brake button, two USB ports, and two cup holders. To make sure your drinks are safe, you should put down a special element in the USB ports area. On the one hand, it is an odd thing. But on the other hand, it is a good way to save space.
The seats of the E are wrapped with leatherette. Moreover, it has a three-color scheme on these seats. So it looks like Geometry wanted to make the E look more expensive. But the seats here can be adjusted only manually, so Geometry didn’t quite succeed in it.

A flat bench represents the second row. It has only two headrests. So it is a little interesting about it. Behind the second row, we have a 295-liter trunk. The thing is, it was measured from the floor to the ceiling. In fact, you won’t be able to fit that much stuff into it.

Now let’s speak size of the Geometry E. It is a small car with dimensions of 4006/1765/1550 mm and a wheelbase of 2485 mm. It is interesting that the E is based on the petrol-powered Geely Vision X3. Before the E, the Geometry EX3 Kung Fu Cow and the Maple 30X shared this chassis. So the E isn’t really a new car. But Geometry did a great job with the design of this vehicle. Moreover, later there will be the E with a swappable battery.

Speaking about batteries, the E got two. The first one is LFP and has a capacity of 33.5 kWh. With it on board, the E can run up to 320 km. The second battery is also LFP, and its capacity reaches 39.4 kWh with a range of 401 km. The E has a single electric motor on the front axle with an output of 81 hp. Later the more powerful E will hit the market. At least Geometry said there would be a version with a 39.4 kWh battery and 380-km range.

The Geometry E price range is 87,800-104,800 RMB (13,110-15,645 USD). So it is quite a cheap car with a hip look inside out. We will keep an eye on the E’ way on the market.

Neta was presented in 2018 as a passenger car brand under Hozon Auto. Its first EV hit the market in the same year. Currently, Neta sells two models: the V Pro and the U Pro. If you wonder, in April 2022, Neta sold 8,813 vehicles, more than NIO, Tesla (in China), and Li Auto. Neta’s way of attracting buyers is a free charging network. If you buy a Neta EV in China, you can get a free home charger or 1,000-2,000 kWh/year of free charging at Neta chargers.

The Neta S stays in line with the official images presented earlier. We can see the same face with ‘cat’s whiskers’ LED running lights, pop-out door handles, and a sloped roofline. From the back, the S has a hip, long taillight unit, and a ducktail spoiler. Worth mentioning that the sedan presented at the Auto Show is an EV as it hasn’t got visible exhaust pipes.

The Neta S’ windows are heavily tinted, so we can’t see an interior. Previously Neta shared its official pictures. In them, the S looked like a charming place to be. There were wood, leather, and Alcantara materials, and three screens with the 17.6-inch main screen. Neta shared the S has a 21-speaker sound system with a maximum output of 1216 W.

The Neta S sits on Hozon’s ‘Shanhai’ platform. It enables wheelbases of 2750-3100 mm, the flexibility to run in front, rear, or four-wheel drive, and EREV and EV versions. The Shanhai platform isn’t specified for sporty-performance cars. Even MPVs could be based on it. Unfortunately, Neta hasn’t stated the S’ dimensions yet.

As for the powertrain, the S has EREV and EV versions. The sedan with a range extender can run up to 1000 km (NEDC). As for the fully electric one, its range reaches 710 km (NEDC). Neta claims that the S’ electric motor’s power consumption is 12 kWh/100km. It is an intense number.

Neta claims the S has 13 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 millimeter-wave radars, and 2 LIDAR sensors on board. Huawei MDC smart platform with 200 TOPS powers it. The S presented at the Auto Show doesn’t have LIDAR sensors.

The Changan, CATL, and Huawei backed Avatr 11 electric SUV is open for booking in China. Moreover, Avatr shared official images of the 11’s interior. Let’s get acquainted with it.

What is Avatr 11?
First, Avatr was a Changan-Nio joint venture launched in 2018. Later, Nio distanced itself from the JV because of financial problems. Right now, two major shareholders of Avatr are Changan (39%) and CATL (28.99%). Huawei helps develop Avatr vehicles, but it hasn’t got any shares.

Avatr 11 in MIIT announcements
In November 2021, Avatr presented its first car. It appeared to be the Avatr 11, an all-electric mid-size SUV-coupe. Later, Chinese MIIT detailed the 11 via monthly announcements. The Avatr 11’s dimensions are 4880/1970/1601 mm, with a wheelbase of 2975 mm. It has a 4- and 5-seat layout. It has two electric motors of 578 hp onboard. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3 seconds. As for the top speed, it reaches 200 km/h. The Avatr 11 got a CATL ternary battery (NMC) with a 90.38 kWh capacity.
As for autonomous driving, the Avatr 11’s autonomous driving system comprises 3 LIDAR sensors, 6 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 13 cameras. The “brain” of this system is Huawei’s computing platform, capable of 400 TOPS.

The Avatr 011 MMV is a special edition of the 11, designed in collaboration with Matthew M Williams, designer at Givenchy, a luxury fashion brand. This edition has black coloring everywhere around the car’s body and interior. Avatr limited it to 500 copies. The Avatr 011 MMV has been strangely unveiled ahead of the standard model.

Previously, we have seen an interior of the Avatr 011 MMV version only. Now we can check it out in different colors with different seat layouts. The interior has two color schemes: black-white and burgundy. The second color also has some fine bronze accents. Worth mentioning that seats with a burgundy color scheme have an asymmetrical pattern.

There are three screens for a driver and a passenger in the center of the Avatr 11. The main screen is floating with a diameter of 15.6 inches. The HarmonyOS from Huawei powers it. Voice and gesture control are some benefits of this system. Two other screens are 10.25-inch. One of them is located in front of a driver, and another is in front of a passenger. The center tunnel has a huge wireless charging pad for two phones and hidden cup holders. There is a spacious room under it. The steering wheel of the 11 is oval-shaped and sporty.

As we’ve already mentioned, the 11 has two different seat layouts. The top trim level has four seats with a huge center console acting as an armrest. It comprises a small screen, a wireless charging pad, a roomy compartment, and a refrigerator. There are two independent seats with a sporty look. As for the cheaper versions of the 11, they got a five-seat layout with a bench on the second row.
Another feature of the Avatr 11 is its sound system. It comprises 14 speakers and a 12-channel power amplifier. It is also equipped with RNC (Road Noise Cancellation) and ASE (Active Sound Enhancement) systems.

EV maker Cherry Automobile has announced the price of its QQ Wujie Pro. The car, released under the iCar Ecosystem, has a base model that starts from 79,990 yuan (US$11,842). The top trim costs 101,900 yuan (US$15,086).

The two-door electric hatchback is offered in four trims, based on the electric motor output and driving range. The base model has a driving range of 301 km and maximum motor output of 55 kW, and maximum torque of 150 Nm, enough for a top speed of 120 km/h. Chery offers a second model with a driving range of 408 km, with a maximum output of 70 kW, maximum torque of 120 Nm, and a maximum speed of 125 km/hr. In both versions, the electric motor is mounted on the rear.

The QQ Wujie Pro is 3402 mm by 1680 mm by 1550/1559 mm and sits on a wheelbase that is 2160 mm long, riding on 16-inch tires. It seats four people, but the rear seats can be folded down to create more cargo space.

There is a central touchscreen display where you can access the car’s settings, with a row of physical buttons directly below it. Under the buttons is a knob whose function is not clear yet (it may be used for selecting either the gear or volume), and inside the knob is the start-stop button.
The QQ Wujie Pro is powered by a 3rd-gen Qualcomm 6155 chip meant for automobiles. This enables a 540-degree panoramic view of the surrounding. The car takes a 360-degree picture and 180-degree of the front and combines them with the help of the chip.
Cherry is proud of the computing capabilities of the QQ Wujie Pro because they are not common for small cars.

The new mini electric car carries Cherry’s newly redesigned logo and has a sporty design. There is a pair of tomahawk-shaped headlights at the front, with a fake grill. It has a body made from aviation-grade aluminum.

The BYD Seal is a sporty sedan with a smooth shape and a sloping roofline. Its drag coefficient is 0.219 Cd – slightly better than the Porsche Taycan with 0.22 Cd. Other fine details of the Seal’s exterior are long narrow headlights, low hood, pop-out door handles, and long taillight unit.

The Seal’s dimensions are 4800/1875/1460 mm with a wheelbase of 2920 mm. To make it clear, the Seal is 106 mm longer, 26 mm wider, and 17 mm higher than the Tesla Model 3. The Seal’s wheelbase is 45 mm longer than the Model 3’s.

The Seal’s interior has a lot of ‘ocean’ styling. For example, the air vents of the Seal have a wavy pattern and are decorated with a delicate blue trim. BYD Seal is based on a BYD e-platform 3.0. Its main benefits are safety, space, and comfort. It also has a CTB (Cell to Body) technology. It means the Seal’s battery is integrated into the frame. With CTB technology, the Seal’s floor is the top cover of the battery. But don’t worry: BYD claims the battery can handle even a 50-ton pressure. Moreover, with a CTB technology, the Seal’s torsional rigidity reaches 40,000 Nm/degree. It is slightly less than the Porsche Taycan, with 42,000 Nm/degree.

BYD is also very proud of the Seal’s iTAC (Intelligent Torque Control System). It can control each wheel’s speed by more than 50 ms in advance. BYD claims that the iTAC system allowed the Seal to pass a moose test at 83.5 km/h. It is an extremely high speed, so it needs to be proved in some independent tests.

As for the battery, BYD says the 4WD Seal’s energy consumption is 12.7 kWh/100km. And the battery can charge 300 km in just 15 minutes.

The BYD Seal comes with four trim levels. The entry-level Seal has a rear-wheel drive, a 61.44 kWh battery for a 550-km range, and 212,800 RMB (31,890 USD) price. Speaking of the second trim line, it adopts the same electric motor and battery and costs 225,800 RMB (33,840 USD). BYD hasn’t detailed their differences yet. As for the third trim level, it is RWD with a bigger battery. Its capacity reaches 82.56 kWh with a range of 700 km and a price tag of 262,800 RMB (39,380 USD).
The top trim level of the Seal is 4WD with a total output of 380 kW (517 hp). It has an 82.56-kWh battery on board with a range of 650 km. The most expensive Seal costs 289,800 RMB (43,430 USD). For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 with RWD starts from 291,000 RMB (43,600 USD) in China. So the Seal is a clear leader in terms of pricing.
So the BYD Seal is an inspiring car with a great range, powerful motors, reasonable price, and loads of tech on board. We will keep an eye on the Seal. So stay tuned!

A BYD executive revealed that the Chinese company is about to start supplying Tesla with battery cells.

In a new interview on a state-owned media channel in China this week, Lian Yubo, executive vice president and president of BYD’s automotive engineering research institute, was asked if he sees Tesla as competition.
He responded (via cnevpost):
Tesla is a very successful company no matter what, BYD respects Tesla and we admire Tesla. We are good friends with Elon Musk, and we will soon supply him with batteries. We are friends.
The comment comes after there were rumors that Tesla was testing BYD’s new “blade batteries” for a potential supply partnership last year.
In 2020, BYD, a China-based electric vehicle and battery company, introduced its new bladed battery cell.
The new cells use LFP chemistry, but the new form factor, which looks like a blade, is the real innovation enabling a safer cell and higher energy density at the pack level, according to the company.
BYD wrote in a press release:
While undergoing nail penetration tests, the Blade Battery emitted neither smoke nor fire after being penetrated, and its surface temperature only reached 30 to 60°C. Under the same conditions, a ternary lithium battery exceeded 500°C and violently burned, and while a conventional lithium iron phosphate block battery did not openly emit flames or smoke, its surface temperature reached dangerous temperatures of 200 to 400°C. This implies that EVs equipped with the Blade Battery would be far less susceptible to catching fire – even when they are severely damaged.
While this feature obviously offers great safety advantages, it also delivers thermal management improvements, and BYD claims the form factor enables energy density improvements by eliminating the need for modules.

It goes directly from cell to pack, not unlike Tesla’s structural battery pack technology.
When the report came out last year about Tesla testing the new cell from BYD, it stated that Tesla already had the cells in test vehicles and that it could start deliveries for production in the second quarter of 2022.
Electrek’s Take
This is surprising and not surprising at the same time.
Elon Musk has made fun of BYD in the past and it would be strange to see Tesla partner with them, but at the same time, the CEO said that Tesla would be buying any viable battery cell it can get its hands on.

Now the form factor is also radically different than the cylindrical battery cells that Tesla uses, but the automaker has also already moved to different cell formats for the vehicles it is building with LFP cells.
So this could really be happening, especially now that a high-level BYD executive is confirming it.

The next version of the Lumin Corn is available for 53,900 RMB (8,050 USD). For this amount of money, it goes with a 17.65-kWh LFP battery and a 210-km range (CLTC). The top trim level of the Lumin Corn costs as much as 63,900 RMB (9,540 USD). This model has an LFP battery of 27.99 kWh. With it on board, the Lumin Corn can run up to 301 km (CLTC).

So the entry-level Mini EV is cheaper than the Lumin Corn, but the top model is more expensive. But the Lumin Corn has more horses, and it is way bigger. Chinese MIIT unveiled the XPeng G9 all-electric SUV. It has 551 horses, LiDAR sensors under high beams, an air suspension, etc. And, if you wonder, it can tow up to 1,500 kilos. Its deliveries will start somewhere in Q3 2022. Let’s get acquainted with the G9.

Let’s start with the size of the XPeng G9. It is a D-SUV with dimensions of 4891/1937/1680mm (1670 without the air suspension) and a wheelbase of 2998 mm. As for the wheels of the G9, it has got 255/55 R19 or 255/45 R21. Its approaching and departure angles are 19 and 20 degrees, respectively.

Li Auto L9
Previously, many Chinese media compared the G9 with the Li Auto L9. But now we see that these two cars play in different segments. Speaking about numbers, the L9 is 327 mm longer, 61 mm wider, and 120 mm taller than the G9. So the XPeng SUV will be a closer competitor to the upcoming Li Auto X02 (L7), the NIO ES6, and the Tesla Model Y.

The XPeng G9’s appearance isn’t a surprise as XPeng has been showing it at different Auto Shows in China since 2021. It maintains a very clean and smooth design. The G9 has a traditional shape but also got some fine modern features. We should also mention that in MIIT Announcement’s images, the XPeng G9 sits very close to the ground. So the car in the shots is likely to have air suspension.

MIIT didn’t share an interior of the XPeng G9. Anyway, we have seen its spy shots several times. We can see a twin-screen for infotainment and passenger in the interior spy shot. Under the screen, we can see blue ambient lighting. The center tunnel of the XPeng G9 got two cup holders and two wireless charging pads for phones. There is also a long armrest. A roomy space is under the central tunnel with USB, USB-C, and 12V ports.

The XPeng G9 is a powerful SUV with two electric motors and combined power of 405 kW (551 hp). On the other hand, it is a heavy SUV with a curb weight of 2335/2355 kilos and a gross weight of 2800 kg. We should underline that the G9 can tow! According to the MIIT, the total mass of the trailer can reach 1,500 kilos. As for the top speed, it is limited to 200 km/h.

XPeng G9 Specs
Unfortunately, MIIT didn’t share the battery capacity of the G9. But we know that it will be a ternary (NMC) battery manufactured by Guangzhou Chengxing Zhidong Motors Technology, a company under XPeng Motors. The XPeng G9 has the XPower 3.0 battery technology package, according to previous information. It features an 800V high voltage Silicon Carbide (SiC) system and a high-voltage overcharge capability of more than 480kW. This technology will allow the G9 to charge up to 200 km in 5 minutes.

Another feature of the XPeng G9 is an autonomous driving system. This vehicle got two LiDAR sensors under the high beams, as we see in the announcements. They will be a part of XPeng’s XPILOT 4.0 intelligent assisted driving system.
Deliveries
XPeng G9’s deliveries are planned for Q3 2022. According to various sources, there are different dates. For example, the financial services company Guosheng Security did research on XPeng’s supplier Sunwoda. According to this research, the XPeng G9 deliveries are planned for October. But a lot of Chinese media sources consolidate around August-September. We will monitor further information about the G9, so stay tuned!

Feifan is a brand under SAIC. Previously its name was R, and it was renamed in October 2021. Technically, the R brand was under Roewe, but in 2021 it became an independent company. SAIC holds 95% of the shares, and the other 5% are distributed between Feifan employees. The naming of Feifan is curious. Its cars are still branded “R”. And on auto shows, they brand themselves as “Feifan R”. It also has a little-known international name “Rising Auto”.

The Feifan (Rising Auto) R7 is a coupe SUV with an aerodynamic shape, pop-out door handles, and sharp headlights. The R7 may have a LIDAR sensor on the roof. Speaking about the size of this vehicle, dimensions are 4900/1925/1655 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm.

The Feifan R7 has an optional LIDAR sensor (on the top left of the picture). Feifan R7’s both versions have another sensor pod inside the car, likely with a standard radar. There are also two different pics of the R7 badge. The one with the red line underneath is likely the 544 hp version, and the other one is the RWD version.

Feifan R7 specs
So the Feifan R7 is a mid-size SUV with a decent wheelbase. It is also heavy, with a curb weight of 2,168-2,310 kg. It has two electric motors for 150 kW and 250 kW made by United Automotive Electronic Systems (UAES), the company under SAIC and HUAYU Automotive Systems Company Limited. Their combined power is 400 kW (544 hp). It is an imposing number. There are also cheaper RWD versions with only one 250 kW (340 hp) electric motor. These versions both have a top speed limited to 200 km/h. Otherwise, the 544 hp R7 would be much faster.
The Feifan R7 has the swappable ternary (NMC) battery on board. It is made by United Auto Battery System (UABS) – the JV between SAIC and CATL. It can also be charged with a plug. In addition, there are versions without swappable batteries. According to Chinese media, SAIC Roewe and Aulton New Energy plan to install 5,000 battery swap stations in 100 cities in China. So the battery swap stations are getting hip.

Aulton New Energy was founded in 2016. It is partly owned by several companies, including Guangzhou Times Holdings Group, Nanjing Mayao Venture Capital Partnership, Nio Capital, T-Rex Capital, and Shanghai INESA Auto Electronics System. In 2021 Aulton New Energy built a total of 366 swap stations.

The Feifan R7 on the production line
Another feature of the Feifan R7 is the self-driving system with a LIDAR sensor, 4D Radar, Nvidia Orin Chip, 8-megapixel HD camera, etc. We can also highlight that the R7 will get the AR-HUD from Huawei with a large 70-inch display area.
Feifan wants to sell 10,000 units of the R7 this year. We will keep an eye on this vehicle, so stay tuned!

Very interesting. Being an exercise by a brand which is part of the Geely group, I'm wondering whether we're seeing some design hints of the upcoming Lotus Type 133 fully electric 4 door GT.

I dunno, it wasn't that long ago (here at least) you'd only buy a Korean car because it was the cheapest on the market with the longest warranty... now Hyundai-Kia group is one of the biggest. f#cking MG has already caught and surpassed a number of established brands here, and even - dare I say it - Tesla too, at least YTD 2022. Though sanctions and trade-wars might come into play, I could otherwise see the Chinese go from strength to strength here... if not mainland Europe.

As far as I understand, no. The concept features a hybrid powertrain (a single small-displacement, range extending ICE paired with a more powerful e-motor and a relatively large battery). However, should a production car come to fruition, it will almost certainly be a bonafide BEV that is technologically related to the Zeekr 001.

Quite frankly, were it not for current events that render increasing cooperation with Chinese entities a hazardous path to embark upon, Chinese manufacturers and those financed by Chinese investors would be well on their way to dominating the global automotive market "lock, stock and barrel". Korea's Hyundai Group will continue to do very well. Japan ? BIG question mark. As for German manufacturers... They continue to lack focus and especially-agility. VAG and M-B appear to be finally smelling the coffee (BMW, not so sure), but their inherent structures prevent them from moving far more quickly.
