New car advice for my mother please

Hi.

My mother is searching for a new car to buy.
She only likes driving small cars (but not too small) with a manual gearbox.

I attached a picture with her current car that she has been driving. It's a Renault Clio.
Her new car should be atleast the same size or a little bigger.

So I'm not a car guy but I know how to get information from people like you. I know there are some people here who could help me make a decision.

I was thinking about an Audi A1, Audi A3, BMW 1 Series, Mercedes A Class, VW Polo.

She cares about comfort (good seats), fuel-economy, and the car shouldn't be too ugly. ^^

Now which one of these cars would you suggest my mother should buy?

If you can't clearly say which car is the best out of this list then tell me the differences between each car.
And keep in mind the car she has been driving right now. (renault clio)

Also the price should not go above like... 25k

We are going to buy a used car ofcourse!

Now tell me your opinions, please.

Skip the list. We will choose from Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. Which one of these cars is more suited to a previous Renault Clio Driver, or simply which one is better?

It is best that she try all mentioned and decide by herself.
But if she looks for this : "She cares about comfort (good seats), fuel-economy, and the car shouldn't be too ugly. ^^"
Then A class IMO.
French cars are comfortable, so I doubt she would like firm-stiff car.

Perhaps a Golf? It is a good compromise, comfortable, not too expensive and it can be optioned with a lot of features.

I've tried B class facelift, 7DCT with 1,5 diesel (109hp), it goes nice with average 5,5 lit consum. in the city.

We'll be going to buy an Audi A3 Sportback then. It's pretty cheap here in germany.

Well my father thought of a golf at first but he himself drives a passat and my mother doesn't want to drive a vw golf then because probably it would be associated with the passat and she doesn't like that. She wants to have a different car. Or she just finds the design boring...
But we agree that a VW Golf is a very good choice.
Still going to get the Audi A3 though.

Don't think it's better than an Audi A3 or a BMW 1 Series.
And some of the new Renaults have an ugly rear.

A3 Sportback is a little different compared to A class and 1 series.
They are hatchbacks, A3 Sportback is mini avant.
Because of that, he is more spacious.
But, when you already choose your pick, you will like this video .
