A3/S3/RS3 [Official] 2013 Audi A3 Sportback

The Audi A3 is a small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Audi AG since September 1996. The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
I honestly can't find any flaws in the exterior design. I like it a lot. But I don't really like the interior design. I find the dashboard empty and I hate those buttons around the gear lever. It should be the other way around.

Empty dashboards are a way to go in light of new controll systems (mmi/i-drive/command, etc) and pop up screens.

I expect other manufacturers to follow suit with the "empty" look dash design,

(unless touch screen technology will find it's way to the upmarket cars like it has done to the mass market cars - if that will be the case we then might see interiors mimicking the newly presented Porsche 918).

Will the 2 liter engine be reserved for the S3 or will it find its way in the 225 ps form into the S3?

Other way around for me, although nice 'tight' and clean lines on the outside it's just too much of a evolution/dejavu IMO.

On the other hand the dash/cabin looks superb-minimalism perfect.;)

I co-sign in every way. I can not complain at any detail in the A3 interior. It is just...perfect.

W-o-r-d! :D

But I don't really like the interior design.

The new A3 use the same hard plastic in the same places as A-class and 1-series, interior materials isn't better than the other germans. Both Audi and BMW have better feel in buttons and levels than A-class. But somehow Audi manage to give the new A3 a 'feelgood factor' that you dont find in MB or BMW. Other than the high seat position it felt very nice being inside the A3.

The new Audi A3 Sportback will begin appearing in German dealerships in February 2013. The 1.2 TFSI will be available somewhat later for a base price of €22,500. Its sporty, functional and comfortable character will appeal to a broad public. In many cases it will be purchased as a second car. The second-largest target group, however, is single-car households and singles up to the age of 39, many of them women.

That's great news that Audi aren't limiting their lowest engine displacement to the A1. People should be able to own the best of both worlds - luxury and low fuel consumption. Overall a terrific design. If I have to nitpick, the green house and tail lights could have been more distinctive. From some angles the car resembles a short wheelbase Audi A4 Avant, though the effect might be exaggerated in photos.

I don't get why they didnt present the S3 sportback now directly? You got the S3, and the A3 SB presented, so why not the S3 SB? Would save time, and make a shorter wait for the RS3.

Well the SB hasn't hit the shelves yet so they are spacing the release out a bit so that the regular SB can enjoy some time in the limelight before the beast of an S3 SB steals all thunder. Either way the focus on weight reduction is really really good. The new model is a winner in all aspects.

The Next-Gen Audi A3: The Body Styles We’ll Get

Audi is preparing the launch of the next-generation A3 in the U.S. for the 2014 model year. The new model will be offered as a five-door hatchback called Sportback, as a four-door sedan, and possibly as a convertible down the road. The entry-level three-door A3, sadly, won’t come to these shores.
Audi’s focus clearly is the four-door sedan, which was previewed by last year’s Geneva concept. This key model will compete head-to-head with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA, as well as the Acura ILX. The sedan will come in a number of flavors: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing roughly 220 hp, a 2.0-liter TDI with around 140 hp, an S3 Quattro with 300 hp, and an RS3 Quattro model with a turbocharged straight-five that will make close to 400 hp and likely outperform the upcoming CLA45 AMG. But Mercedes-Benz AMG has ample time to prepare more powerful derivatives.

An A3 convertible is a likely addition as we hear that Mercedes-Benz is strongly considering an A-class convertible. The A3 cabriolet will have a fabric top—Audi engineers scorn the clumsy folding hard tops that are popular with a lot of other carmakers, including Volkswagen. The five-door Sportback is likely to arrive in turbo-four form–only; don’t expect an oil-burning five-door A3. Although Audi again has put the U.S. market in a position of picking and choosing from its extensive list of powertrains and body styles, at least we’ll have the opportunity to pick and choose the hi-po offerings.

I love the note of the 2.5TFSI, there's something about that note that just reminds me of watching those S1s in the forest as a nipper but I particularly love the cocky little wave he gives to the car in front to tell him he's still here and will take a bit of ballsy driving to get rid of him. :D

I think I'm officially at that stage where there's no Audi I don't like -.-

But that aside, can some Audi expert please tell me why this is "hatch" is a sportback and the A5 sportback is like a cls-ish type of idea? What will the 4 door A3 be called?

Yeah, I think it's pretty stupid aswell. I mean calling the A5 and A7 Sportback, and then also the A3? I think it should be called Sportcoupé or Sporthatch for the A5/A7 and A3 5-door should then be Sportback? But why now just A3 Avant? Because if the A3 is called sportback, then why is the A4 and A6 called avant?. This name-giving is just weird.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
