Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, announced
that it will exhibit the “2013 Legacy” (Chinese specifications) at 2012 Beijing International Automotive
Under the theme of "All performance enhancement" that covers designs, fuel efficiency, driveability and
safety, the 2013 Legacy was developed with more extensive modifications than a typical yearly model
change.
In the view of the market characteristics, the 2013 Legacy model for Chinese market was specially designed
not only to enhance its great presence but also to embody the bold and dynamic design with its raised ground
clearance.
FHI will also showcase the Subaru BRZ for the first time in China, and the new Chinese rally car.
The press conference is scheduled at the Subaru booth on April 23.

This is a LCI of the current car isn´t it? If so then I know it´s gonna look like sh*t. The current car just scrwed up what was a decent design.

Unconventional new high-riding Liberty sedan variant coming to Australia later this year.

Subaru is once again going against convention, confirming it will add a high-riding sedan to its Liberty model line-up.

The new Liberty sedan model will play a role similar to the Outback wagon, with better off-road capability and chunkier styling, but Subaru Australia says it won’t wear the Outback badge.

The car rides 60mm higher than the regular Liberty sedan, and features a new grille similar to the maker’s recent XV compact off-roader, flared wheel arches, different bumpers and 18-inch wheels.

Inside it gets black metal-look finishes on the centre console and relocated switches and park brake button. These design tweaks should also flow to the rest of the Liberty range when it’s updated late in 2012.

Subaru says that as well as being better equipped to tackle Australia’s challenging road conditions, the new model should appeal to older buyers as the new model’s hip-point is 70mm higher – making ingress and egress less challenging.

Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior says the car’s extra height should make it appealing to buyers in regional and rural areas.

“Only two markets in the world – Australia and China – are getting this new variant, recognising some of the unique road conditions experienced in both countries,” Senior says. “It is still an enlightening statistic that around 60 per cent of our roads are unsealed.”

The car will still be built in Japan, and will be offered with both the 2.5-litre and 3.6-litre “boxer” engines.

Further details including pricing, specification and the name of the new variant will be confirmed later this year.

A higher-riding version of the Subaru Liberty sedan will join the Australian line-up later this year, adding extra versatility to the all-wheel-drive mid-sized range.

The new Liberty variant sits 60mm higher than the standard sedan and is 70mm higher at the hip point. Its minimum ground clearance of 210mm makes it just 3mm lower than the Outback and 10mm lower than the Forester and XV.

Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior said our market and China would be the only two regions in the world to get the high-riding model, a decision influenced by the two countries’ unique road conditions.

“It is still an enlightening statistic that around 60 per cent of our roads are unsealed,” Senior said.

“We see its main market to be in rural areas, but it will also be ideal for those with tricky driveways, those who travel with trailers and caravans, or just those who want a sedan where you can sit a bit higher.”

No, it actually looks worse than sh*t.

I like Subaru, especially for their flat engines, but they are disapointing in many ways. A bit like Alfa. When will they be serious? The concept car looked good.

You're not that old are you Martin ? ;)

Very anti-climatic. Why on earth do certain car manufacturers keep doing this? Releasing dark teaser images to sex up their not-so-extra ordinary cars? It's pointless. I like the idea of high-riding sedans. In Africa and Asia small affordable high clearance sedans could do very well.

Subaru has the Legacy Outback, Forester or the Impreza XV for this purpose already, and this 'new' high riding sedan isn't cheap either.

I think because Subaru has the Legacy/Outback, it was a very cheap and easy project to create this Legacy high-rider. I can see why the old folks may not want to own a 'big' station-wagon Outback, let alone a Forrester.

I don't really get this... how challenging are the roads that 70+ year old drivers go on any way? Are their regular Camrys, Accords, Commodores and Falcons bottoming-out?

Then the new Impreza XV should be all the car they need.

I guess they like to drive over the curbs, over the roundabout, over fences, over other people's cars...etc:D

Oh no no no... they need something bigger than that to feel 'safe'.

Hahaha, as funny as that may be, it's a pity they couldn't make the car sit even higher so that they could drive over children rather than into them. :(

Sorry to dig up this old thread but I have finally saw one today, parked on a quiet street, blue with silver side skirts. It is indeed the rarest car I have ever seen.
