Passat [Official] 2015 Volkswagen Passat

As bland, boring and non descriptive as this new Passat? Most probably indeed. They'll share a million parts.

Please tell me you're joking. Have you been in the sun too much, without protection?
I know you don't like BMW and all, but the hyperbole is getting silly. Apart from the Hofmeister, this car looks like a cheap econobox.

Look at the front profile in the 3 pictures I posted. Also take a look at the sharp shoulder line typical for and seen on cars like the BMW E9. That combined with a Hoffmeister kink make for a ultra sleek almost anorexic(in a good ole BMW way) side profile. The design is 50% Bland / 50% Perfection.
Wait to see the car in black + R-Line. It's a future Volks classic mark my words. Give this car RWD proportions and some kidneys... the end result will be Phenomenal.
I ADORE true BMWs in a way I couldn't even explain to myself... mainly the reason I can sense true BMWness in things.
I own the E21 B6 2.8 Alpina. I only need the E9 and new Passat now :D BTW my coffee machine is designed by BMW designers :D

PS: Great to see two men fighting for me in this thread! Keep it up boys. Klier already made his entry to the contest by posting his woodpecker/underwear picture.
@C4L it's your turn now. Make my decision even harder!

Sweet jesus I made a giant mistake. That picture is going to haunt me :(
Focus on the crow damnit :D ;)

Also, I wasn't born when they made the E9. Show it next to the new Passat please.

Not the most exciting or beautiful looking car in its class (think BMW 3 series and Mercedes C-Class instead) but still a classy looking and desirable car in its own way. It's a muscular evolution of the current car. It's trump car will still be its interior and boot space as well as back seat comfort.

It's not really the same class. A decently specced C or 3er will end up almost twice as expensive.

And for what it is worth, it looks a lot better in the YT vid posted by Rainer

What makes people think this is in a class with any BMW or Mercedes? I don't understand the comparisons at all. This car competes with a Honda Accord, Ford Fusion/Mondeo, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata, Peugeot 508, Mazda6, and the like.

The fact that several are even making the comparison to luxury products just makes the case for this new Passat that much better.

Looks rather nice. Compared to it's typical competitors (Ford Mondeo/Toyota Avensis/Citroën C5/Peugeot 508) even really good. The fact that the hood shutline ends at the grill, and not inches above that, is a good thing for a newly designed car.

As someone who oddly owns two identical (Iron grey/Icelandic grey) Passat CCs, a 2005 Passat Variant 1.8T and tooled around for two years in a B6 2.0 TDI, I am an unequivocal fan! I love the new Passat. Would I get one? Absolutely!! The only question in my mind is when. Hopefully, In the next two years or so. I will replace my Variant with the new B8 Variant. And like C4L says, the fact that several posts are mentioning BMW & Audi, only bodes well for it.

Volkswagen Passat GTE revealed ahead of Paris debut

Volkswagen Passat GTE

System output of 218 HP
Volkswagen has unveiled the plug-in hybrid Passat GTE prior to its official premiere during the Paris Motor Show next week.

Based on the eight generation Passat, the model is the third plug-in hybrid from the German manufacturer after the limited-run XL1 and the Golf GTE. When sales start in the second half of 2015, the vehicle will be available in both saloon and estate body styles.

Visually the GTE modification differs from the standard Passat with its blue accents on the radiator grille, the restyled front bumper with integrated C-shaped LED lights and the bigger alloy wheels. The interior benefits from a blue ambient lighting, a redesigned gear knob and a leather-trimmed flat bottom steering wheel.

The Passat GTE is powered by a petrol-electric hybrid system that includes a tuned version of the 1.4-liter TSI petrol unit rated at 156 HP (115 kW), supported by an electric motor with 115 HP (85 kW) and 400 Nm (243 lb-ft). The combined output is 218 HP (160 kW), while the transmission is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Volkswagen says the average fuel consumption is 2.0 l/100 km (141 mpg) and 13.0 kWh/100 km, which responds to CO2 emissions of less than 45 g/km. With full 50-liter fuel trunk and lithium-ion battery fully charged, the car has a range of 1000 km (622 miles). The 0-100 sprint (0-62 mph) takes less than eight seconds, while top speed reaches 220 km/h (137 mph).

2 liter per 100 km consumption however it will empty 50 liter tank in 1000 km, that is 5 liter per 100 km consumption or worse than 4.9 litre per 100 km consumption of the standard 150 hp model. Why bother with hybrid if it going to be less frugal.

New Volkswagen Passat UK pricing announced

2015 Volkswagen Passat

Top level begins at 27,425 GBP
Volkswagen has announced the all-new eighth generation Passat will be priced from 22,215 GBP (RRP OTR) for the entry-level model when it goes on sale in the United Kingdom in January 2015.

Described as the “the most successful European business car”, the vehicle was officially revealed back in July. Now the German manufacturer has revealed the car will be offered only with diesel engines in the UK, ranging in power from a 1.6-liter 120 PS (88 kW), through two 2.0-liter units with 150 PS (110 kW) or 190 PS (140 kW), to a range-topping 2.0-liter bi-turbo with 240 PS (176 kW), DSG gearbox and 4MOTION four-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid GTE version with a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine and electric motor will follow in October 2015.

At launch, five different trim levels will be offered: S (22,215 GBP), SE (23,310 GBP), SE Business (24,010 GBP), GT (25,305 GBP) and R-Line (27,425 GBP). Standard equipment includes post-collision braking system with front assist, adaptive cruise control, pre-crash braking system and more. The range-topping R-Line offers heated seats, a three-zone climate control, a set of 18-inch alloy wheels and a “host of bespoke design features”.

Volkswagen also says a more frugal BlueMotion verison with a 1.6-liter engine returning 3 l/100 km (78 mpg) and just 95 g/km of CO2 will join the range in June 2015, while an Alltrack modification of the Estate is due in July.

VW confirms new Passat Alltrack for next year

A jacked-up version of VW's new Passat B8 with the usual crossover styling references and the Alltrack designation will join the saloon and estate models next year.
The new VW Passat Alltrack will go on sale in the UK in July 2015, which likely places its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March of the same year.
Like the outgoing model as well as the smaller and less expensive (Jetta) Golf Alltrack that's schedule for a world premiere in Paris this week, the new Passat Alltrack will be based on the station wagon version of the series.
Along with a taller suspension (raised by around 20 to 30mm) for greater road clearance in the… rare chance users take it off the road, the Alltrack Passat will get VW's 4Motion all-wheel drive system with an electronic front differential lock and a series of SUV-inspired styling elements such as the protection plates on both ends.
The engine range will mirror that of the regular Passat models.

VW Passat B8 2.0 BiTDI 240 HP Acceleration Test: Very Impressive

The outgoing VW Passat still comes with a 300 horsepower V6 engine and its replacement will have a 280 horsepower 2.0 TSI mill stolen from the SEAT Leon Cupra hot hatch. Impressive stuff, yet the whole world is literally obsessed with a new 240 hp diesel that Volkswagen has just launched. Why? Because it's the first twin-turbo 2.0 TDI ever made and is hugely impressive, a segment benchmark.

Fresh from a launch event organized in Germany, we've been able to find the very first acceleration test from a Youtube channel called #ILOVECARS. The camera pointing directly at the 12.3-inch TFT screen that replaced the speedometer and shows just how fast the new Passat can be... if you pay VW a lot of money.

Besides the 240 PS, the twin-turbo engine also comes with 500 Nm (368 lb-ft) of torque, the highest yet delivered by an MQB car. This is especially useful during acceleration, but can only be harnessed by a Haldex 5 all-wheel drive system and a new seven-speed wet-clutch DSG gearbox.

Official numbers from Volkswagen claim 0 to 80 km/h (50 mph) takes 4.2 seconds and 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.1 seconds. But the video tells us a different story. The gearbox is set up for low fuel consumption and comfort. Even though it's in Sport mode, the gear changes aren't as brutal as a GTI and by the time the Passat reaches 100 km/h, the DSG is doing into fourth gear.

Check out the acceleration test in the short video below, not before reading the full specs of the Passat BiTDI in our database.
