Challenger [Official] Challenger Demon

The Dodge Challenger is a full-size muscle car that was introduced in early 2008 originally as a rival to the evolved fifth-generation Ford Mustang and the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.

Dodge announces the return of the Demon – an SRT Challenger that's even hotter than the Hellcat.
Just when you thought the Dodge lineup couldn’t get any more aggressive. At this year’s New York Auto Show in April, the company will revive its legendary Demon moniker for the 2018 model year. The nameplate first made its debut in 1971, and then again showed up on a Dodge concept car at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show.

This time it will be on the backside of an SRT Challenger. Though the company is still keeping the details of the car a mystery, Dodge says that it will be the "new ultimate performance halo" vehicle of the lineup – even more impressive than the 707-horsepower (527-kilowatt) Challenger Hellcat, or the 645-horsepower (480-kilowatt) Viper ACR.

Based on previous spy shots, we're led to believe that it could be the highly anticipated all-wheel-drive Challenger Hellcat (pictured below). But with the new name and badging, it could be something new entirely.

The debut will come with a series of teaser videos, the first of which is entitled "Cage," and will give fans a bit of insight into the Demon’s performance credentials and engineering, as well as a clue leading up to the next few videos. Dodge will continue its visual teasing campaign until the Challenger Demon’s debut at the New York Auto Show.

"Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody." said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT – FCA North America. "The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed, and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation."

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be on display when doors open to the New York Auto Show on April 12, 2017. Hellcat owners beware.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is 200 lb lighter than a Hellcat

Challenger SRT Demon for 2018, likely the final model year for the current generation of the muscle car icon.

Along with that bombshell, the company released a ballsy teaser video featuring a hellish big cat made out of car parts prowling atop scurrying white mice, symbolizing the Challenger SRT Hellcat among the sea of the mundane. In the closing frames, the mechanical cat explodes and out pops an angry-looking demon.

So what exactly will this new king of the hill be? Dodge is holding back most of the details until April’s 2017 New York auto show but we already have a few clues. For starters, Dodge has confirmed that the Demon will be more than 200 pounds lighter than the Hellcat, which weighs a hefty 4,439 lb.

And from the latest teaser photo and video it appears the car will be benefiting from a wider track. Dodge says certain modifications have been made to the wheels, suspension and steering. The company says the brakes and some of the interior elements have received adjustments, too. Hopefully there will be a little extra power from the familiar supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, which in the Hellcat delivers 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

We’ve been expecting a wider, more extreme Challenger for some time. Dodge alluded to the possibility when it rolled out the Challenger GT AWD concept at the 2015 SEMA show, and Challenger prototypes wearing much wider rubber than stock have been spotted testing on Michigan roads over the past several months.

There are 12 videos in the series of teasers for the Demon, meaning we’re in store for 10 more. Dodge has set up the special website www.ifyouknowyouknow.com that shows a countdown to the other videos and includes some downloadable wallpapers. The final video will coincide with the reveal of Demon in the days prior to the 2017 New York auto show, which is scheduled to start on April 12.

Two teaser video and two revealing spy shots later, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is getting closer to its debut. According to its maker, the SRT Demon will be undressed of its secrets on April 12 at the 2017 NYIAS. The newest Fast and Furious movie, on the other hand, will hit U.S. theaters on April 14, 2017.

Notice any connection between the two dates? I’m not a make-believe guy, but I can’t shake off the thought that the SRT Demon was hiding in plain sight ever since the first trailer for The Fate of the Furious hit the Internet. In addition to it, there’s a video of Vin Diesel and his crew standing next to not one, but two examples of the Challenger that'll dethrone the SRT Hellcat.

“How do you know those are Demons and not mockups?” Well, take a very close look at the decals affixed to the front fenders. Make no mistake about it, that’s the Demon logo. The widebody kit, turn signal lights, and road-legal drag radials are other indicators these cars are pre-production prototype of the Challenger SRT Demon. The adjacent gallery features a still of Vin Diesel driving the SRT Demon. From the said screenshot, we can catch a glimpse of a four-point roll cage and no rear seats. Drag racing mods, anyone?

Another still reveals that the car is equipped with an auto box. So much for three months worth of build up, huh? But be that as it may, we still don’t know just how many HP hide under the bulging hood. If the 6.2-liter blown HEMI V8 engine is indeed capable of chugging E85 race fuel, it’s not wishful thinking to look forward to 800 horsepower or thereabout at the crank.

Up to this point, we also know that the Demon is at least 200 pounds (90 kilograms) lighter than the Hellcat. Last, but certainly not least, it’s most likely a rear-wheel-drive car, not AWD as it was rumored a little while back.

If you’re a Mopar guy, you know what’s going on over at Dodge these days: Tim Kuniskis plans to dethrone the Challenger SRT Hellcat as the king of the muscle cars with the SRT Demon.

Coming courtesy of sinister_z07 and driven_garage on Instagram, the pictured vehicle appears to be the real deal. The resolution isn’t amazing, and neither is the car cover. Then again, this is our best look yet at the damned thing before its planned debut at the 2017 NY Auto Show. So what’s cooking?

First things first, the tires. Yes, those are Nitto drag radials. From the thread, my guess is that this is the NT05R model. And based on how flared the wheel arches are, we might be looking at P315/40 18-inch units designed for 11-inch wide rims. Serious stuff. Regarding the wheels, the five-spoke design perfectly resembles the wheel teased by Dodge on the SRT Demon microsite.

The humongous hood bulge resembles the shadowy teaser Dodge published today, from which we found out that the SRT Demon is more than 200 pounds (90 kilograms) lighter than the SRT Hellcat. On the front fenders of the vehicle, we can see the Demon decal. Because it’s powered by a more potent version of the 6.2-liter supercharged V8, the SRT and Hellcat logos lie up front, next to the ram air intake in the driver-side headlight.

If you zoom in on the second image in the gallery, you can almost see that the passenger-side headlight also features a ram air intake. More power equals more heat, hence the need for more air and better cooling. Regarding the interior, we can definitely see that the SRT Demon is equipped with an automatic, likely the 8-speed transmission found in the SRT Hellcat. Is this a sign the Demon will be auto-only? Knowing that it’s intended for drag racing, this might be the case. The speedometer is also different from the Hellcat.

Oh, and another thing: just above the HVAC controls, do you notice an extra button compared to what a Hellcat has to offer? Word on the street is that the button is labeled “Racing Fuel.” Pressing it allows the car to run on E85 race fuel, a.k.a. 110 octane, or so the enthusiast forums are suggesting.

Did Vin Diesel leak the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon?
IT CERTAINLY LOOKS THAT WAY

It seems Dodge's new performance car was accidentally leaked during a "Fast and Furious" wrap speech. Sure, it's hard to say these Mopars are actually Dodge Challenger SRT Demons and not just modified Hellcats, but it looks like the fender flares, the massive hood scoop and the strange fender badging might be that of Dodge's future SRT king.

With the timeline of the next "Fast and Furious" release and the launch of the car, it only makes sense that Chrysler would lend a few of its preproduction examples to the franchise. These cars don’t have windshields and are likely further modified, but this might give us a good idea of what the Demon will look like in the wild.

Check out the video above to see a few solid shots of the Challenger. If you’re not a "Fast and Furious" fan, you might want to turn down the volume. We won't know for sure if this is the real deal until its New York auto show debut this April.

How the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon lost 232 pounds
8f113a3c4d0c53723c3418ba7d18dc38.webp

Dodge is in the process of teasing the new 2018 Challenger SRT Demon, and we recently learned it will weigh more than 200 pounds less than a Hellcat. Now, we know exactly how.

We’ve learned from Dodge officials that the Demon will weigh exactly 215 pounds less than a Hellcat, but how it got there is the stuff we love to endlessly recite before bedtime.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how the Demon went on a diet in its evolution from its Hellcat sibling:

  • 4 pounds, manual tilt/telescope steering wheel
  • 2 pounds, removed parking sensors
  • 16 pounds, 18x11-inch aluminum wheels with open lug nuts
  • 18 pounds, removed 23 NVH components (it’s going to be loud)
  • 19 pounds, smaller diameter, hollow sway bar (front went from 34 mm solid to 29 mm hollow, rear went from 22 mm solid to 19 mm hollow)
  • 24 pounds, removed all speakers except front door speakers
  • 16 pounds, new aluminum brakes: 2-piece, 4-piston Brembos (went from 390 mm diameter to 360 mm)
  • 55 pounds, removed rear seats
  • 58 pounds, removed front passenger seat
  • 20 pounds, removed trunk lining and spare tire/wheel
As you can tell from the exhaustive list, the Demon has lost 232 pounds, but it gains back 17 pounds in the process of becoming a Demon. How? We're patiently awaiting more details on that.

Dodge is taking a less-is-more approach in a truly Porsche fashion. Unlike Porsche, however, this car will be built mostly for straight-line speed.

Dodge officials wouldn’t say more, but we’ll have more teasers as the weeks tick by until the Demon makes it official debut April 11 in New York City.

Does the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon have 757 horsepower?

Teaser for 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon debuting at 2017 New York auto show
We don't know yet how much horsepower the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has, but that hasn't stopped everyone from looking for clues. Every teaser we've received so far has revealed more about the new beast, and now the latest one might've just exposed the car's horsepower rating.

The sharp minds over at Road & Track noticed that the owner plate on the Demon box image revealed as a teaser has a serial number of 0757. They believe this indicates the new Demon will have 757 horsepower, which would be exactly 50 more horses than the 707 horsepower Hellcat.

Their logic? The teasers for the Hellcat had '70s on 7 playing on the radio screen in a teaser image for the Hellcat, and it ended up revealing that the car had 707 horsepower. Obviously, the same logic is now being applied here.

Teaser for 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon debuting at 2017 New York auto show
The #2576@35 numbers on an earlier teaser's license plate still remain a mystery with Dodge telling us every guess thus far has been wrong. Either we are being lied to--a possibility--or no one has actually figured it out yet.

The new Demon might breathe better with a cold air intake, or larger intake openings, or a larger hood scoop, or new tech we don't even know about yet. Maybe it has magical unicorn dust sprinkled on a Hellcat's engine to gain a few horses. Your guess is as good as ours, but the logic being applied here is completely plausible.

Stay tuned for more teasers as they are surely coming weekly until the Demon is revealed on April 11 at the New York Auto Show.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon fully customizable for the street or strip

factory-installed radial tires, it’s easy to write off the Demon as being purely a drag strip hero. Heck, buyers can even opt to have the front passenger seat removed to reduce weight.

However, Dodge wants the Demon to be a platform from which each customer can design their ultimate muscle car either for the street, the strip or a combination of both—and not just when the car is ordered but whenever the customer desires.

Dodge says it will offer the Demon with a crate of parts, 18 in total, including spare wheels, a number of performance parts, and tools to install or remove them all. Most of the parts will be Demon-branded, adding to the collectability factor.

Those parts shown in the latest teaser give us a good look at the Demon's intentions with what appear to be front runners, a pneumatic impact wrench, a jack, and more.

Those front runners would confirm the Demon is indeed rear-wheel drive, and not all-wheel drive as some suspected.

Teaser for 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon debuting at 2017 New York auto show
Dodge is demonstrating this level of customizability with its new teaser video, titled “Crate.” It shows a mysterious, Stig-like character struggling to choose what performance mods to add to the car.

Dodge will present the Demon at the 2017 New York auto show, which starts April 12. The car will be shown earlier, though, with the reveal most likely linked with the new movie "The Fate of the Furious," which starts April 12 and is predicted to feature the Demon in some scenes.

There are still quite a few weeks to go and Dodge will continue to drip-feed info on the car. This latest clip is just the fourth in a series of 12. Fans should visit the website www.ifyouknowyouknow.com to view a countdown to the other videos as well as download some content.

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Makes Another Online Appearance

The odds of the car you see in these pictures not being the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are slimmer than a goldfish’s chances in a tank of Piranhas.
Illegal_machine, says the car “popped up in Miami for a Pittbull video”.

As rightly noted by the folks over at Jalopnik, everything from the enormous hood scoop and the fender badge to the massively wide tires places under the fender extensions, match what we’ve seen from the official teasers as well as that Fast & Furious clip from December.

Dodge’s ongoing pre-launch campaign has already dropped six video clips, with nine more remaining before the big reveal at the 2017 New York Auto Show in April.

What we know so far about the Demon is that it will be 215 pounds (nearly 100kg) lighter than the Hellcat having seating for one – driver only, while at the same time, promising to deliver more than the latter’s 707hp from a tuned supercharged V8 engine that will be paired to a modified automatic transmission.
