Mustang [Official] Ford Mustang (S550)

Disagree strongly on the Mustang copied 4er theory. Both are FE 2+2 coupes, obviously there will be some similarity in the profile. The way he nose hooks is similar but was probably a result of the EU pedestrian safety rules.

The current Mustang is a good looking car. But the interior design and quality is horrible. This one looks a little better inside, but still... So much plastic...
I like the exterior of this car, but I don't think Id like to sit in it.

Better photo of the interior+engine cut away drawing.

I don't think it is a deliberate copy, the new design is an evolution of the classic Mustang shape.

While I agree with you that it is an evolution of the classic Mustang, there are some distinct European styling elements. The flat nose is the EU pedestrian protection measure for safety if this car is going over seas. (The new CTS also has this design) the bulge in the hood is an abstract form BMW introduced on the latest 3-series. I remember BMW pointed out that this is strictly for style. The kink in the 3/4 window, the rear fender treatment and the kicked out boot is a European BMW type style. This seems to be an American trend now days.
The new CTS and Corvette also has some European type design elements to them...

The new Mustang is part of the One Ford Global strategy, it will be built on the right hand drive as well, so it is very much for the international market. I guess this explains the European influence of its styling.

^
so would you agree this is most likely the best Mustang yet?

The 4 banger should be interesting. I was never a 4-cylinder fan till I drove the new CTS.

On paper, this is the best Mustang already, proper independent rear suspension and the new car is up to 100 kg lighter than the old one.

Due tell, what was that like??

The 272hp, 295lb-ft turbo Inline 4 cylinder in the CTS is pretty quick. It has more torque than the n/a V6 (295lb-ft, vs 275lb-ft) and is faster than the V6 by 0.3seconds to 60mph. What took me by surprise was the wide power-band. As I said in my review I nailed it pretty hard... the power band was indeed wider than the inline 6 BMW 328 I drove. The only drawback is the noise factor... If you have driven a 4-banger would know what I`m talking about. The CTS 4 gets good gas mileage as well... about 30 on the freeway.

^^
In other words, this car could do well in Europe, and it's a brilliant looker - progressive retro:

I like it, just that the current/prev.gen. looks more...Mustang (retro) IMO. Nevertheless a design that pleases and evokes 'want', thus job well done.

Modern suspension is just what the Dr. ordered.
