Looks good in dark colors, just as the new S Class looks better in dark colors, IMO.

But still from a design perspective, as W221>W222 so QP MkV>QP MkVI, IMHO.

I like both Maserati sedans. Perhaps the last one was better looking, but still the QP is one fine looking car, inside out

I've spotted a three Quattroportes over the past week. You'd have to be in denial to say its not a good looking car. Though the rear looks a bit out of place, as a whole, its a very fine looking car. A friend, who daily drives a GTS, felt that the noticeable Chrysler bits and pieces was a turn off during his test drive, but he conceded that they were of higher tactile quality than what is found in the GT and his old QP.

Its a decent alternative for individuals not seeking the usual big three.

I start liking it, not perfect but not too bad. Unfortunately I do expect perfection from a brand like Maserati. Hopefully next generation, once there'll be cash.

Were its Chrysler origins extremely obvious during your test drive? Was the ride smooth? Did it feel big? So many questions! :)

Drives like a big, but sporty car. You don't notice the Chrysler switchgear past the big touch screen in the dash which is so obviously not Maserati's. The one I drove stickered for about 155K, had the sport pack, carbon fiber and every option per the salesman. The engine didn't feel as strong as my car, but the ZF gearbox was the same, still very fast either way. There are some curious ergonomics though. The turn indicators can't be reached from the steering wheel unless you have really loooong fingers, found that to be hilarious. Rides good for 21 inch wheels too, quieter than my 650i with 20's. Overall I liked it a lot, but not for 155K. Would rather have a S8 for that money I think. The Ghibli is where I would be if the driving experience is even sharper because of its size.

Yes, that was the concluding question: Did it feel worth $155k... I pretty much assumed it would not based on that car tour SaabKyle did on Youtube (the car was extremely plain on the inside and even downright cheap looking, pity) , but now you have confirmed it. It is so sad because the car is gorgeous and finally big enough to be a formidable competitor to the Germans. However, there is no way in hell would I pay S600 money for a car lacking in so many crucial areas. Anyhow, thanks for answering the questions!

In other words minus the sound system and navi, previous Quattroporte was better, in looks/design (in/out), engine sound/feeling and all the rest. Sad. I have no more hope for the GranTursimo replacement and the Shamal ("911 fighter").

Maserati Quattroporte diesel announced in Frankfurt

Maserati has announced plans to offer the Quattroporte with a new diesel engine.
Displacing 3.0-liters, the VM Motori-sourced V6 has a variable geometry turbocharger, an engine start/stop system and a steel exhaust manifold with Air Gap technology for "higher exhaust temperatures and higher energy gas flow."
Thanks to aforementioned technology, the engine will have outputs of 250 HP (184 kW) and 275 HP (202 kW). Detailed performance specifications were not released but the latter engine will enable the model to run from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.
To ensure the car still sounds like a proper Maserati, it will be equipped with an active sound system that has two acoustic actuators installed near the exhaust pipes that will "accentuate the distinctive sound of the engine and modulate it according to the way in which the car is driven."
