Fiesta [Official] New Ford Fiesta

I bought a MINI Cooper SE, it's a small EV, unless you need to drive long distances as a city car it and the Honda E, Fiat 500e are enough for many people.

A Honda E is nearly double the price of a Fiesta here, a Fiat 500E and Mini E is more than double the cost of a Sandero. To a degree some of these cars are put across as the trendy or premium option, but even the Corsa... petrol, £18k, electric £31k - the Corsa is one of the countries repeat best-selling cars and a staple at both the learner and pensioner end of the spectrum, and they want £30k+ for the electric one.

Living with the size of the vehicle might not be a problem, but in terms of affordability, they're moving the game the wrong way. Most of the cheapest EV's here are still about 30% more than their petrol competitors, which is absolutely fine for those that want an EV whilst there's the choice, but for those who just need affordable personal mobility, pulling the ICE cars and telling people to buy EV's is not so fine.

With the Fiesta gone the Sandero is going to be about half the price of what Ford's entry level will be, that's just nuts to me, but I guess the market has evolved.
Dacia will see big growth over the coming years. Their cars are now at the price point that Ford, VW and Skoda models were 3-5 years ago.

CarPlay, climate control, powered windows and physical HVAC controls, Dacia's now have the essentials to not leave their owners wanting much more.

I'm intrigued by the Dacia Jogger. The cheapest 7 seater on the market. Next year Dacia will launch a camping kit. Highly innovative if you ask me.

Dacia is producing some really impressive cars lately and have improved hugely compared to past cars. They are no longer the cheap built, bare bones brand but challenging other brands with excellent value for money and good rugged looks. The Sandero Stepway at 13K Pounds has many standard features not even some more expensive cars have.

This is very sad news for the car community. The Fiesta and Focus(discontinue in 2025) are brilliant cars. They tend to be the cars which people experience "good handling" for the first time. From learner and track days, they have been popular choices. Last but not least, the Fiesta ST is a super fun car and the closest that some owner will get to something like a GT3.

This makes me want to buy a Nardo grey or Orange Fiesta ST.

It's the same story in the A & B segment. Smaller SUVs are cannibalising city hatches. The Puma is selling higher than the Fiesta in many markets just like nearly other contender as well as other segments have been fully penetrated by SUV equivalent models. Who is to blame? You.

Which FWD cars are more fun to drive for the same money?
I honestly couldn't say, the problem is the FWD bit, or even FWD based.
After careful thought and a quick shift through my garage, I've decided that I'm with Hassan on this one.

FWD is not the problem. Fun is actually there to be had with a proper FWD car. The problem is that manufacturers stray away from the recipe that makes FWD delicious. Instead, they opt for higher driving positions, bigger wheels 'cause they look bling, cheap torsion beam rear axles and all around heavier and bulkier chassis. Not to mention the overall lack of character.

Small Ford hatches, despite the advancement of technology, do remain actually good to drive and the way Ford does steering, is a very welcome beacon of light amongst the fog. Reading that the Fiesta will soon be gone and so will the Focus is just terrible, terrible news.

However I would caveat that the gap between Ford hatchbacks and rivals have narrowed over the past 10 years. Hyundai's contribution with the N performance line-up of cars is excellent, even though I prefer the heritage of the Fords.

In the UK the fiesta is incredibly popular! Especially amongst young people who want a fun car but can't afford to insure cars with en engine larger than 1.6L. Visit a McDonald's drive-through at dark and you're bound to see a modified fiesta. The car is big part of UK car culture - more so than the mini which is bloated and more of a cool car for boomers and for parents in their mid-30s who want to be edgy.

Mk 2 XR2i's were the hot hatch to have when I was at college, insurance must have been eyewatering.

It's official. Production for the Fiesta will end by June 2023. S-Max and Galaxy production will end by April. The latter is popular as a large taxi or families as it's one of the few affordable cars in Europe that can comfortably accommodate three child seats on the second row.

By next summer, Ford in Europe will pretty much only sell EVs and crossovers.

Henry Ford: 'Any car you like as long as it's an EV'

Ford is chasing the shekel. Big mistake. All eggs in one basket. The Plan of course is to push everyone into EV, but that's just a plan, and many a slip twixt cup and lip.

The collapse of natural gas price currently shows just how fickle these plans are. The world is awash in nat gas and oil, and 'fossil' fuels, which have been '30 years from running out' since the 1970s, with huge reserves still untapped.

The watering down of Euro 7 by the EU bureaucrats is the first crack in the edifice, of 'total ban on ICE', which Ford obviously didn't get the memo on. The great man Tavares at Stellantis is now openly mocking the EU bureaucrats, and their dreams of total control/eradication of the plebs. Tavares wants a business, hundreds of thousands employed, millions of customers, not the wet dreams of psycho scum.

Big mistake by Ford.

I'm glad that Euro 7 regs will be scrapped for petrol cars. It's a saving grace for car consumers and manufacturers.

Ford's strategy is two prong:

SUVs: Let's keep milking this cash cow and cancel all other ICE cars bar the mustang.( *See the US website, Ford no longer sells any saloons or hatchbacks there)
EV: Future proof to ensure competitiveness in 5-10 years time.

Personally I think that they are cancelling ICE cars a bit too aggressively and prematurely. I think a low income or middle class individual who currently buy a new Fiesta/Focus for £17k will all of a sudden be able to afford a £30-40k equivalent EV in the next 2-3 years - especially as we are heading into recession with rising living costs.

Enjoyed my short time with the 2019 Fiesta ST-line I had for a few months between cars. 5 door manual, 99bhp petrol. Great handling and fun.

I had a Fiesta XR2 in the 90's, that was fun too. Sad times.

the Touran could also accommodate three child seats, its the only reason why I bought one, it was a sad day when I left my 2 year old Volvo V70 RDesign 2.4D at the dealers and drove off in a Touran 2.0 TDi.

If you ever want to downsize I recommend the second generation Citroen C4. My GF has one and it has the most impressive interior packaging that I ever experienced. It's only 10cm longer than my M140 yet the rear is so spacious that I sit comfortably in the middle seat and walk pass occupants on either side to walk out of the car. There's even under floor storage in the foot well!

Unfortunately Citroen has evolved all it's MPVs and practical cars into SUVs :(

Great video about the history of the Fiesta. The last 3 Fiesta generations have been the best in my opinion.
