Leaf [Official] New Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf is a battery-electric car manufactured by Nissan, produced since 2010. It has been offered exclusively as a 5-door hatchback until 2025, which will be released as a crossover SUV model. The term "LEAF" serves as a backronym to leading environmentally-friendly affordable family car.
LOL!

To be fair, the line close to the grille is not really a shutline. But the real shutline is absolutely horrible, and it completely ruins the other line IMHO.
For the rest the car appears pretty decent.

Why are all Japanese cars looking the same these days?

Meh.

The Japanese say the same about German cars, without a shadow of a doubt. A Nissan, Toyota or Mazda are more different from each other than a Benz, BMW and Audi are.

Why am i reading each time a different range, is it 150 or 235 miles ?

Launch car will come with 40 kW battery (150 Mile / 240 KM range) and next year they'll offer the 60 kW battery (225 mile / 360 KM range).

The new base model has 40% more range over the outgoing car and it is cheaper too. Huge improvement over its predecessor IMO.

A much better looking car than the previous bubble snapped version. It looks to be a more stylish and practical car than the fugly Toyota Prius which is slow as a donkey in comparison. The performance (0-100 in 7,9sec) is not far behind the i3 as well.

Actually after some research it was about this
The new Leaf is rated for 248 miles in Japan, 235 miles in Europe, but only 150 miles in the US, due to different range tests for electric vehicles in different territories.
New Nissan Leaf has one-pedal driving mode for both accelerating and braking

I am baffled how such a gap could be explained by diiferent testing methods.

That article did not provide details on how they got that range but I'm going to guess they're referring to the different rating systems that are used in different parts of the world.

In North America the EPA rating is used (which is more representative to real life driving situations) and then there is NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) which is used in Europe and parts of Asia. I think NEDC is BS because it inflates range and makes car manufacturers look good but no one ever gets NEDC range. Its the equivalent of ICE carmakers quoting vehicle Kerb Weight vs Unladen weight - the latter is a useless fact.

e.g. When the first gen Leaf came out, it had a range of 84 Miles EPA / 123 Miles NEDC.

Within the VW group there's a lot of shared DNA, but there is a big difference between BMW, MB, AUDI etc.

All these Japanese cars just have the same crazy grills, body slashes and creases. This looks like it could have come out of Lexus or Toyota, or even Honda. There's nothing distinctly 'Nissan' about it.

Nissan Leaf is off to a hot start in Europe, globally

TOKYO -- Nissan Europe's electric vehicle boss says the second-generation Leaf is selling much better than expected.

After less than two months of availability, 3,500 Leafs have been sold in Europe. By comparison, it took Nissan a year to achieve the same total when it launched the first-generation Leaf in the region seven years ago, Nissan Europe EV Director Gareth Dunsmore told Automotive News Europe at the auto show here.

Norway was the first European market to get the Leaf, starting in early September.

“They have been our first customers and our most loyal customers and we wanted to give something back to the people who trusted us from Day One back in 2010 and 2011,” Dunsmore said, adding that more than 2,000 existing and new customers in Norway already have purchased the Leaf.

Nissan picked up another wave of sales after the market launch of the Leaf in Germany, Austria, France and Holland on Oct. 2.

The launch edition of the new Leaf, which is called the 2.ZERO and includes Nissan's ProPilot semi-autonomous driving technology, starts at 31,950 euros in Germany. Less expensive versions will follow, Dunsmore said.

Globally, Nissan has received more than 9,000 orders for the new Leaf, which is also on sale in Japan. The new model has...[

9,000 orders in the first 2 months. Comparatively, 1st Gen leaf took 12 months to get to the same number.

^^
It's a shame there's no Toyota in that slide. While the Leaf is attractive, its price will come under pressure once VW launch the I.D next year and Merc/Audi/BMW pump out entry level plug-in hybrids.

I saw a German road test on this car a few days ago and that’s the first time I noticed it. When it came out I didn’t bother looking at the photos because it was a car I didn’t care about. But with mass electric mobility seemingly becoming a more serious topic I decided to watch that road test.

Some of my thoughts.

First, the new Leaf is actually quite handsome and good-looking. My favorite Nissan designs were from the late 1960s all the way to about the mid-1990s, then they became really bland and ugly. The new Leaf is actually quite refreshing.

Second, the interior looks like it’s well made, but design wise it looks pretty “outdated” especially compared to the rather futuristic design of the exterior. But that wouldn’t be the deal breaker for me.

Third, the claimed range of over 400 km could not be achieved even on a warm Mediterranean day (the Leaf was tested in Tenerife, Spain) with normal road and highway speeds (50-80-120 km/h). The testers wanted to circle the entire island by driving a Leaf around it; not even halfway through they had to turn around because the range kept dropping and it became clear that the Leaf wouldn’t be able to circle Tenerife.

It’s a nice car, but it’s clearly still not ideal for those of us who have to drive long distances daily where time and punctuality are everything. If someone gave me one of these things I wouldn’t say no. I’d use it for city driving!

When they produce an electric car with a range of 1000 km (which means at least 400 km of real-world-range) that can be fully recharged in 5 minutes then you have my attention. :)
