Boxster/Cayman (981/987) [Official] Porsche Boxster (981 Series)

The Porsche 987 is the internal designation for the second generation Porsche Boxster sports car, built from 2004 to 2012. In 2005, it was joined in the range by the new Cayman fastback coupé (project 987c).

Our 981 Boxster S arrives tomorrow, can't wait! Ordered in June last year, what a ridiculous wait.... This black one is super hot. Not a fan of the red interior though.

Porsche Boxster with 211 PS

Powered by a 2.7 flat-six engine, not 4-cylinder
A possible new version of the Porsche Boxsterwith 211 PS (155 kW) has been unofficially introduced through the website of Porsche Belgium.

Still not confirmed by the German manufacturer, the model is already on sale in Belgium at 52,030 EUR (67,500 USD) for the version with manual transmission and at 55,115 EUR (71,500 USD) for the PDK.

Surprisingly, the sports vehicle is not powered by a 4-cylinder unit as it has been rumored for a while now. Instead, it has the standard 2.7-liter flat-six unit detuned to generate 211 PS (155 kW).

Chances are this is a domestic version of the Boxster, made by Porsche Belgium for reduced import taxation, just like their Norwegian colleagues did four years ago.

According to the information, the Boxster sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.4 seconds with manual gearbox and in 6.1 seconds with the PDK automatic. The top speed is 245 km/h (152 mph) and 243 km/h (151 mph) respectively.

So, in other words this is a complete non-story. It's just a detuned to avoid higher registration costs in Belgium. Cars with power at 212PS or above are taxed much higher. I don't think it has anything to do with imports. It was exactly the same with the previous generation Boxster.

IMHO, it defeats the object of getting a Porsche. Buy an expensive car but then detune it to save money.

It's the same in Thailand they have different import tax brackets based on cars power and engine capacity, if it's more than 220bhp or more than 2000cm3 then tax increases hugely on imports. That's why large capacity cars are not popular there, which is a real shame :(

Porsche Boxster 'RS Spyder' spied for the first time

More power, less weight
A hotter Porsche Boxster has been spied for the first time testing, prior to an expected launch next year.

Almost a year ago, Porsche introduced a more powerful Boxster GTS with 340 HP & 370 Nm but that won't remain the range-topping version for a long time as a higher specification is being prepared. Porsche has already confirmed it won't be as hardcore as the upcoming Cayman GT4 but nevertheless we should expect even more power from the six-cylinder 3.4-liter boxer engine and it will be wrapped around in a lighter package as the cabin will lose some of the amenities for the sake of shaving off excess weight.

Since we know for sure it won’t be called "Boxster GT4", chances are Porsche will dig up an old moniker and one of the possible candidates is the RS Spyder used back in 2007. That was a special edition developed to celebrate the Porsche Type 718 RS Spyder which triumphed in the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring race in Florida, United States.

The prototype spotted by our spy photographers had a more aggressive front bumper and an additional air intake at the bottom of the hood, just like in the 911 GT3. Moreover, the rear end shows a ducktail spoiler while the suspension appears to be lower compared to the regular variant.

Porsche will probably decide to reveal the meaner Boxster in 2016 at a starting price considerably higher than the GTS which in Germany kicks off at €69,949.

^^nicely done,I don't think it will have a fixed wing like the cayman gt4. The word is that the top of the line Boxster will be geared more towards road rather than hard core track use like the cayman.

Has a 3.4-liter flat-six engine

Porsche Exclusive has showcased a unique Boxster S.

The sporty roadster features a Guards Red body paint that is also used for the rear diffuser and for the rollover hoops. Also, the vehicle comes with 5-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the seats are covered in black perforated leather, while the steering wheel is dressed up in Alcantara leather. Also notable are the red speed dials, center console clock and key.

The Boxster S Guards Red is powered by a 3.4-liter flat-six engine with 315 PS (232 kW) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque. This one is equipped with an automatic transmission, which means the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration takes only five seconds.

2016 Porsche Cayman facelift / Automedia

Due early next year
British media has managed to find out what will power next year's facelifted Porsche Boxster and Cayman duo.

Porsche has already announced the mid-cycle revision for the Boxster and Cayman will bring a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and now CARis providing additional details. The base versions of both models are bound to employ a flat-four 2.0-liter turbo with 240 bhp whereas the hotter S versions will use a 2.5-liter engine delivering 300 bhp. As for the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS, these will have the same 2.5-liter flat-four turbocharged engine but tweaked to churn 370 bhp.

The newly developed flat-four engine is going to come with a single fixed-vane turbocharger, but later on the engineers from Stuttgart are going to implement e-turbo technology to boost power and eliminate turbo lag. The report goes on to specify the beefier Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4 will live on with the larger 3.8-liter flat-six normally aspirated engine.

Interestingly, CAR mentions that in some markets Porsche plans on positioning the Cayman below the Boxster to increase sales and also broaden the model's awareness.
