Velar [Official] Range Rover Velar

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar, generally known as the Range Rover Velar, is a crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the Velar was unveiled on 1 March 2017 in London, England. The name Velar had previously been used for a series of pre-production first-generation Range Rovers in 1969.

The Range Rover Velar has been confirmed by Land Rover as the latest addition to its line-up, with the brand revealing the first image of the model.

It will sit between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport in the brand’s line-up and introduce an all-new interior design language for the firm.

As the fourth model in the line-up, the mid-sized SUV is described by Range Rover as “filling the white space between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport”. It is a vital price point for Range Rover, plugging the gap between the £40,000 Evoque and £80,000 Sport and challenging important rivals such as the Porsche Macan and BMW X6.

Damn that's one fine looking rear end.

The current Range Rover lineup looks fantastic, however they are starting to look way too similar.

They're just following what happens in Germany, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW, same design different sizes. It works for them so might as well work for JLR.

I think Land Rover has one of the most coherent line ups in their portfolio. From a blend of classic tradition, statesmanship luxury and modern design has certainly increased their sales and standing from a global perspective. There is no doubt the cars look great and appear more athletic than lethargic.
The Velar will be the icing on the proverbial cake now that it's positioning is clear.
It's worth noting that Land Rover have pursued the strategy developed when under BMW ownership to adapt to many segments as possible and expand the Range Rover brand.
It certainly has paid off.

I like what I am seeing it's going to be one heck of a good looking SUV. Can't wait to see other pics of the front and profile as well as interior. I really like Land Rover/Range Rover current line up they all great looking and extremely capable cars.

These two engines would make the new Velar an enticing luxury SUV prospect - making the Range Rover brand more accessible to those who see the Evoque for what it really is: a dressed up old Freelander. If only these new Ingenium engines can get rapidly proven in the field for reliability. Right now, in my humble opinion, they're just too much of an unknown quantity and one of the primary reasons I'd not buy a JLR product (along with exorbitant pricing in SA).

Impressive stats from that 2.0 diesel, its on a par with the VAG 240PS 2.0 diesel. Now BMW and Mercedes need to bring out higher powered versions of their own 2.0 diesel engines to match or surpass these 2 benchmark powerplants.

Autocar mentioned the news last week of the new engines in various models:

The Jaguar F-Pace, XF and XE ranges have been updated for 2017 with new engines, driver assist technology and infotainment.

Three new Ingenium powertrains have been added to the mix. The first is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol (pictured below) that produces 197bhp, and the second is a more potent version that produces 247bhp. The units make use of continuously variable valve lift technology to boost performance and efficiency.

The petrol engines are joined by a new turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel that produces 237bhp and 369lb ft of torque. It offers up to 54.4mpg and emits 137g/km when used in the XE.

Both the XE and XF gain all three units, while the F-Pace gets the diesel and more potent petrol. All existing engines, which include turbocharged 3.0-litre petrols and diesels, are retained for each model, as is the option of all-wheel drive.

Along with the new units, the existing 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine of the XE range topper, the XE S, receives a power boost of 39bhp to bring its maximum output to 375bhp.
