Golf [Official] Volkswagen Golf VII

I've been back and forth through six pages of posts and I'm very surprised that no one cared to make mention of the single biggest exterior design change - something that's not been seen since the Mk 1 Golf...

Since Audi's logo is in fact the four rings this might explain why the claim/rumor started, though I would still love to know for sure.
Bob, very few things are as sacred as the angel lights in the automotive world. Let's not get into this :D

I just have to point out that I think this rear is utterly utterly BORING!!
It looks the same as a rear of a Passat or the new Touareq. Thumbs down for the rear.

Just to compare:

Son of a ...

There's a front quarterpanel/ window or whatever this hideous design cue is called!

Exactly my brother...

The front quarter light glass behind the A-pillar. Very un-Golf-like though a consistent trend in modern hatchback design. It enables a more steeply raked windscreen coupled with a deeper dash & more spacious-feeling front cabin afforded by pushing the base of the A-pillars forward.

I admit it. At first I didn't notice it. Actually I didn't notice it until you brought it up. Sadly, it's something I loathe in modern cars. It just doesn't feel right to me, and personally I get exactly the opposite of what designers try to achieve. At least it was not very noticable!

It's a very significant move. It's intentionally subtle but ushers in the new design standard moving forward; surely a move in order to remain competitive with the Koreans in particular.

This front quarter window is so subtle I don't think anyone other than yourself Martin noticed it. They are usually there to aid sight but here I can't see much benefit without actually sitting in the car myself.

No this isn't technically correct. These front quarterlights do little to enhance sight. If anything they're obstructive to forward vision.

The purpose of these trending front quarterlights is to separate the A-pillar and door opening "hard-points". Car designers want to impart a greater sense of cabin space and so adjust the monovolume by extending the A-pillar base forward. Of course this has practical and geometrical implications; a) the front door panel would have to be lengthened to the point that it impinges on the front wing and b) with the door aperture being that much larger, bigger side windows would be required. There is also a weight implication too. The front quarterlight solves these practical issues.

I didn't like the first pics, I wasn't sure about the lights, I thought the inner sides should have been more squared off...

but it's really grown on me. The R will be hot.

You can´t compare a Golf R with a standart golf 7 back. The Golf 7 R back will be 10 times hotter then the regular one.

Apparently Dynaudio stereo wont be available for Golf 7, instead everyone will be stuck with the standard 2x20W or 4x20W (Masters edition) stereo which sucks. What the heck?
