Owning a 320si

I'll certainly take recommendation on the software/hardware for the OBD if you have any. The tablet route is one I'm already considering for infotainment anyway, so that would work.

The socket is basically attached to something behind the trim cover, and sits on the end of a cable. It's easy enough to detach the port and have it lose behind the trim panel to get a bit more clearance. I wouldn't want anything sticking out, as Crunch says - I'd probably end up breaking it off the first time I got out of the car!
There are different kinds of software with different access also it depends on whether it is universal or only for BMW. With the professional ones you can adjust anything that has an electronic control, but there are more simole that only show you the info from some sensors. Also the software is specific to the OBD. I have a disk with different simple software for almost all brands. They are not the latest versions but if you are interested I'll find it tomorrow and send you the files.

It would be good to get something to have a play with, though I'll need to get some kind of Bluetooth sender first, so no hurry.

Going to get a decent service done on it next month, the guys at Munich Legends sound like they have quite a bit of experience with the N45, so I'm planning to take it there.

Congrats bud!!!

So when are you going to add a rear wing and full BMW M/Motorsports decals? :D

Thanks man.

Not gonna lie... I've thought about the wing! The race car wing is original fitment on the E92 M3 GTS, so in theory it could be done using OEM parts! But... let's be honest, it would look a bit silly :D

I say go for it. "Looking a bit silly" is not a good enough reason not to.

Price of an OE GTS wing might be though ;)

Seriously though, I have principles to maintain! I am keen to pay homage to the touring car, but generally speaking, the rarer a car is*, the less I approve of modifying it... high cost and questionable aesthetics only make it less of a good idea.

*I appreciate the car isn't exactly unicorn jism, but stuff like this saddens me...

I'm thinking a better homage might be to track it once at each of the UK's touring car circuits... but I'm not at a point where I can set aside the budget for that.

I mean, have you looked in the mirror lately? ??

Well, I was expecting the first bill for the car to be something a little more exciting... But a big f*** off nail in the front left meant replacing the fronts. They were a budget range anyway, so it's getting Continentals as replacement.

I've always liked the E90 "Dreier" and actually came close to pulling the trigger on a slightly used (under 30K km on the odo) 325i about 10 years ago. Very nicely equipped (tan leather, polished wood trim, nice sound system, cool OEM larger diameter alloys, etc.) in an attractive (and not very common) pale, light silverish green metallic. It was featured at the large BMW Center in Dreieich near Frankfurt/Main. If I recall correctly, the saleman and I were both stubborn and 1200 Euros apart, hence "no deal". It was a really nice car and...maybe...I shouldn't have been so stubborn.

Well, looking at the bright side, it's always nice to wear new shoes

They're immediately better than the old ones... which where "Accelera" brand, and I suspect just put on to get the car through it's MOT at some stage in the Mid-2010's. The backs are Bridestone Potenza's and they're alright.

Also, I told a lie! The first bill for the car was a new locking wheel nut widget! Less than £10.

So...

The back left tyre has been loosing pressure at an increasing rate over the last few weeks. "Fine", I thought... yet another puncture... but since the rear tyres are actually 13 years old, I didn't mind replacing them. Opted to go for Continental Sport Contact 5 SSR's, just because they're the same as what's on the front.

Tyre fitter popped the wheel off, then showed me why it'd been loosing pressure...

But FOUR cracks!

F#@!

I've almost certainly not hit anything that hard with it, but my local roads are absolute dogsh!t when it comes to pot holes (and botched pot hole repairs), so it could easily be cumulative damage, perhaps even from before I had the car.

Apparently they'll weld up alright, but I'm going to have to get a replacement. The tyre fitter put some sealant in the cracks, fitted and inflated the tyre anyway... they balanced up with very little effort, so it's probably not buckled but it seems miraculous they were holding any air at all.

In other news, the car just ticked over 50,000 miles. Really want to get a full service arranged for it, but I might get it through its MOT next month first, just in case there's more money to be thrown at it.

I feel you my friend. I feel you. And so does my wallet.

Very kind of you to offer to pay :D ;)

Just having a quick look at the used wheels on offer, and there's a noticeable number of them that have cracks, or repairs, on the rears - so it doesn't seem uncommon. My local dealer has confirmed they're no longer available new, so instead of being able to buy one in perfect condition, I'll probably have to buy 4 that are all a bit shagged, which isn't ideal.

Are those the factory wheels?

Yep, BBS type 216's (36 11 6770465). It's one of the things I was careful to check when I bought the car. If they're knock-offs or have already had enough work done to be blasted and repainted, then the BMW Motorsport lettering is often missing or doesn't look right. They've accumulated a bit of curb damage over the years but aside from 4 massive cracks in one of 'em, they're pretty good!

Welcome to my world, amigo.

It's ****ing annoying. You can report damage here and potentially claim against the local council for costs, but I can't really do that in good faith because I'm not sure exactly sure when or where it happened.
