Am I missing something?
Big alloys, twin exhaust and the usual red highlight on the front like every other GTI. So what's so drop dead about it? I'll take the genuine one built in Wolfsburg, thanks. Especially after watching TG SE22EP05...
I don't know what car you are referring to, the 308, the A45 or both, however what should be noted about the 308 GTI is its low weight for a four-door hatch. And, to ilustrate that one can pick the 2-door Renault Megane 275 Trophy-R and see that even after a thoroughly weight reduction program which resulted in the loss of the back seat and 100kg of weight saving, the final weight is 1311kg as per 'sport auto' measuring (full tank, w/o driver), while the standard 4-door Peugeot 308 GT THP 205 weighs 1330kg (full tank, w/o driver) as per the same magazine.
Remember that the 270 hp 308 GTI will be even slightly lighter than the 308 GT THP 205 which is equipped with a detuned version of the same basic engine.
Peugeot did something very right with the 308's new 'Efficient Modular Platform' (EMP2):
"In 2012, PSA Peugeot Citroen and General Motors formed an alliance which will develop a new version of the global compact platform based on the Peugeot 308, dubbed EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform). The platform will be lightweight, reducing weight by using very high strength steel, aluminum and magnesium alloys, and composite materials."
"PSA Peugeot-Citroen’s new Efficient Modular Platform (EMP2) is 70Kg lighter than its predecessor, through the extensive use of high-strength steel and advanced high-strength steel, which comprises 76% of the platform mass, compared to 22% on the previous one; it also makes greater use of laser welding and incorporates a composite boot floor for the first time. A further 70Kg is saved in the body mass itself, where the wings and bonnet are formed from aluminium."
"By redesigning the cooling system of the new Peugeot 308 it was possible to reduce the front overhang by 6cms and, since the car is 3 cms shorter than the outgoing model, the ‘left over’ 3cms has been used to enlarge the boot."
