IMO, the SLR was a failure for MB. Hope they can do the SLS right.

IMO, the SLR was everything that it should'nt have been. It was typical of other AMGs in 2005-2006- extremely powerful, extremely luxurious, but could be out-handled by any BMW. McLaren wanted to produce a real sports car, with less luxury but greater performance/handling capabilities. MB wanted the car to be loaded with luxury. Many reviews say that the car is extremely fast in the straightaway, but when it came to handling and steering feel- the car was awful. It all depends on people's preference- people still bought the SLR because they like to have a big "sports car" with a huge MB emblem on it. Others realize that there is more to a car than 600+ horsepower. Hopefully, MB gets it right with the SLS.

Oh, the SLR was much more than a tricked out AMG coupe. The only real flaw I have really heard of over and over again is the brakes. In those cases the complaints have always been regarding the feel, not the efficiency. Well, it was way to expensive as well, you could get a Ferrari 599 for a lot (a lot!) less and I can say, that is not a good thing given the level of ambition MB had with the SLR.

SLR was an amazing cars and the SLS is a sorry ass replacement IMO. Less HP, Less exotic....only thing we get in exchange is a Gullwing doors. Big Deal!
