Hot! Porsche: What's Next

What specifically is the reason the regulations need flexibility?

The impact on the bloc of the regulations as they are appears to be more detrimental than anticipated when drafted or approved.

Glad I am in the US where we will be able to buy gas cars well past 2035 and there are companies like BMW who plan to continue making ICE indefinitely.

You'll be able to buy petrol powered cars in Europe well past 2035 too, you just won't be able to buy a brand new one.

I can predict how this is going to turn out. Someone will respond with the obvious, which you, an intelligent member, already know. Then you will reply with some EV sales chart or whatever justifies a pro-EV agenda. And, depending on the interest/patience of the counterpart, there will be an intense debate about something that has been endlessly debated.

Luckily the latter is still in the air.

I am going to vote only for parties who are against the EV Mandate.

I have nothing against EVs, but I’ll buy ICE as long as possible.

I've got no interest in getting into yet another debate about EVs. I was just curious as to why the regulations needed flexibility. Kicking the can further down the road on mandating the end of ICE does nobody any favours at all. Not people who prefer EVs. Not people who prefer ICEs. And certainly not the manufacturers.

Manufacturers are directly lobbying the EU to relax the rules, I think it's fair to say it would benefit them, or else they wouldn't be asking for it.
Agree. After being forced to make €bn investments, demand is simply not there. Something that might be tough ti grasp for a burocrat in Brussels.

Depends which manufacturers. I'm pretty sure Tesla and Polestar aren't.

And it's the chicken and egg situation. Moving the goalposts doesn't instil confidence in EVs, which in turn reduces demand. A few months ago I would have said I was in the market for another Taycan in the near future, but as of now, I'm simply not prepared to lose massive amounts of money in another EV (I'll only accept "large" amounts 😂). And that's one of the best EVs you can buy. What hope do EVs have, really? Not to mention the relentless anti-EV propaganda you read on a daily basis that they don't work/catch fire/kill puppies.

Porsche didn't expect their EV-leaning rhetoric to backfire so spectacularly. They didn't read the room until it was too late.
The new 718 EV should've seen daylight yonks ago but now? The brakes are on because Porsche are shitting themselves that no-one is going to buy one. I sure as hell wouldn't.

Thank God for 911.

Very good question.

I suspect that a good many consumers have been left insecure, perhaps even anxious, regarding whether to sign on for an EV or an ICE vehicle. This dilemma is leaving more than a few from refraining to consider a new vehicle in the shorter term altogether. And for pensioners, who constitute a large segment of our consuming public, refraining from purchasing/leasing a new vehicle AT ALL. This leads to the highest average age of registered vehicles in Germany since official statistics were introduced. Just under 11 years old and most certainly rising.

Agree 100%.
Putting the battery where the engine is, was not very clever TBH.

But again on the 911 they lost the plot with the prices.

It all boils down to resale value of EVs.
No-one has a clue about how much the main part of their upcoming second hand EV has gone to shit.

When this is solved, ICE is dead.

It's going to be a 50k car that they will be selling for well over double that.
If it was priced sensibly, it would sell. But pricing and sensible don't go together with Porsche. And thank God it's backfiring for these greedy f#ckers.

Few random related points -

A. Porsche doing badly now has nothing to with 2035 EU mandate. It is doing badly cause China is not buying their overpriced vehicles.

B. Having said that, I am against any mandates, for many reasons, one of them being . I rather see the companies that don't adapt die than be dragged kicking and screaming by mandates. Just die and free up the economic resources you are taking up.

C. I have driven my 5N and 4RS back to back many times on back roads now. There are many things the 4RS does better. But power delivery is not one of it. So yea, I would love to try an electric 718.

D. I of course get the emotional attraction of a high revving NA engine or a manual transmission. But that is not what future of ICEV holds - it is a dumpy turbo with an automatic slurring through the gears. And worse lugging around hybrid crap to try and be more like an EV. Just get a f#cking EV.

I agree on these points.(y)

EVs are currently money burning machines.
