Comparison tests R&T: Ferrari 458 Italia vs. Mclaren MP4-12C vs. Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

It's a bloody shame about the ZR1's flimsiness. You can't tell me that an extra $10,000 wouldn't enable significant gains in quality where needed with little impact on the attractiveness of the value proposition.

false: in direct comparo, usually ferrari wins on track. go back to see prev. direct-head-to-head

SO it is (McLAREN 10-2 FERRARI), THUS the Ferrari is no match for the McLaren on track ;)
And it is impossible, as I said, for the Ferrari to be Nearly 2 seconds faster than the McLaren UNLESS something NOT RIGHT went on there !

^You forget that all of the McLaren testcars were on optional Corsa-semi-slicks, while the "old" 458 Italias were on regular Michelin Pilot Sports. Even the new Pilot Super Sport on the 458 is no semi-slick...

Why you guys don't want to admit that the McLaren is the KING on tracks ? And you don't want to even digest the fact that there is a car better (Speed, comfort,...) than the 458. Ferrari is not going to reign Forever, it is McLaren's time!

For paxah's "10 attempts" that McLaren was winning, 3 times was faster by 3 tenths and 4 times in less that 1 seconds using semi-slicks tires....so at least "7 times" that the 12C would not be considered faster using the same comparative tires parameters of Ferrari.

I have just posteed some results facts ...
honestly, this situation was a surprise even for me: two years ago I was sure how the new McLaren (more powerful lighter with carbon frame), would beat the 458 easly.
this has not happened cause:
- the car MP4 is excellent from all points of view: a supercar really complete, fast, agile, comfortable, use friendly, but its handling, although excellent, is not as "revolutionary"
the 458, contrary, maybe it was a bit underestimated, Ferrari has also made continuous small improvements and with new tires (Pilot SS), and @ launch of the Spyder, Ferrari announced how the coupé would have a connotation even sportier (setup, gearshift)
:cat:

hahaha ok
Maybe the journalists don't think that its Handling is not as revolutionary because it doesn't deliver the same driving enjoyment as the 458.
But come on, be realistic, all the cars in 8-10 years will handle/feel like the McLaren, robot-style :P (that is revolutionary for a car company to be able to do it 10 years earlier) Using Sophisticated Traction control, suspension, comfort, brake steer.....
BTW love the cat at the end :P :cat: haha

talking about this comparos, very bad the Zr1, 2.8s slowwer than prev. hotlap
Previous lap may have been in cooler conditions (early spring vs summer). Supercharged cars have been known to heatsoak before too. In the previous test, the ZR1 was also driven by Tommy Milner, who is one of GM's factory Corvette race pilots. He was faster in the Grand Sport than Millen was in the ZR1.

Regarding the old PS2, how can we be sure that any of those test cars had PS2s? This is from C&D's tire test:
"Two years ago, Ferrari launched the 458 Italia a few months before Michelin released its Pilot Super Sport (PSS). Because Ferrari wanted the PSS for the 458 but Michelin didn’t want to preempt its own release, some of the early 458s were delivered on 'Michelin Pilot Sport PS2' tires. But those PS2s were actually PSSs. It isn’t hard to understand why Ferrari wanted the 'custom' PSSs for the 458."

Ferrari's original press pictures show a Pilot Super Sport tread pattern, not PS2:

Thanks Guibo, usefull infos
about michelins, they're already probably decided to launch the PSS with the 599 GTO (@ launch, the most powerful strett-legal-ferrari ever): the PSSs are not a Ferrari -exclusive (for example, you can find them on the new M5), however, it was certain a spectacular-launch.
This confirms, once again, what I always argued about the 458 ,how Ferrari has continuously updated its 458, and how its hotlap-improvements were not only thanks to a "tire change", but thanks to a setup globally improved.

Once I would have noticed immediately: I'm getting old, I'm afraid... :coffee:
