No, sorry... The high end models: eg AMGs, XJR, etc don't count

For me:

1. Lexus LS/Mercedes-Benz S-class (Tie)
3. Audi A8
4. Jaguar XJ
5. BMW 7-series.

Though the current Jag XK X351 has aged well despite having been in production for a decade.

was just kidding around... .relax lol

Fair enough, I actually agree (to a degree) with your ranking. The S is easily the most cohesive design here, and despite how much of a bad photoshop effect the Lexus loks, I've always liked it. The Jag, actually in person, is pretty good from the front, and the 7-er -- it has to be an Alpina in LCI spec.... and this is not an Alpina... sooo...nope. And the Audi just looks bad.

Personally I'd have whatever the Porsche equivalent is*.

*lol nope.

S
Jag
7er
LS
A8

I can't really fault any of the front ends of these cars. The LS and 7er tend to be the most polarizing. But I think the LS (and LC and ES) have done a good job integrating and presenting the Predator grille. And the 7er's grille is jarring but looks good the more I look at it, though I need to see it in person. The S and Jag are older and thus their grilles aren't as grand. The A8 just bores me from all exterior angles, including the front.

In time people will get used to the new 7-series's gargantuan grille... Dramatic changes can be disconcerting at first..

When Audi went from a normal sized grille to a massive one, there were plenty of people who were taken aback initially, but then they got used to it.

Many people instantly liked it, especially the BMW fans. Time is needed for the people who don't like BMW by default.

My problem with the grille is not the width. It is the height and the fact that it extends into the hood area.. Someone on vwvortex did a quick pshop reducing that height. I think it's an improvement. Of course everyone here will disagree lol

I actually prefer the Vortex photoshop myself, based on the critera that you've mentioned (excessive height). Of all contestants, I find no front-end that I would find "offensive". The A8 and LS are maybe a bit...too much. That of the W222 is the least contrived. A pity that the G11/12s' face isn't identical to that of the Vortex photoshop as it would be easily be my favorite.

I'm on the exactly opposite opinion. The pre LCI front looks droopy and because of that the whole car looks clumsy. The raised grill of the LCI balances the front to the rest of the car and makes the whole car look lean in a way the E38 7er did.

The Alpina B7 version of the LCI does look good but this thread is about garden variety models... If you go on Autotrader and search the entire united states for every new Alpina B7, only 3 cars come up. New & used from 2017-2020 only 22 cars come up.
Alpinas are less common than Lamborghinis and not the 7-series models you see everyday, so it's unfair too bring that particular model into this comparison.

For me the lower front chin spoiler and the use of the non M-sport bumper help balance out the visual weight of the grille, so it is my preference in general.

I take your point in terms of the validity in this comparison, but I think it's worth pointing out because I don't think the 7-er grille is inherently bad, it's how it integrates with the rest of the design. Personally, if it was my garden variety 7-er.. I'd be very tempted, not to try and buy a B7, but to order an original spec Alpina front spoiler instead... I'm sure that'd be far cheaper!

I like the 7er's new grill. Yeah there's a lot of bandwagon exaggerations about how ghastly the grille looks, but it's polarizing in a good way too. It's not as cohesive as the VFL's, but the size of the grille gives the car presence. It looks like a proper flagship now. Remember when people screamed, "Big three seres?" Not anymore.

Agree, except that it seems to me that it is much better in the 7 series than in the VFL, I did not like it at all in the concept and in the 7 I love how they applied the same idea with a better result.
