Expected to weigh 1,100 kg
The recently unveiled Renault Alpine Celebration concept has received a digital makeover suitable for a production model.

The Alpine nameplate is now sixty years old so Renault has decided to celebrate this milestone with a concept that also provides a sneak preview of next year's road-going model. RM Design wanted to see into the future and toned down the concept to make it suitable for a production version. As a consequence, he removed the body graphics, installed more conventional front and rear lighting clusters and mounted more practical side mirrors.

The alloy wheel design has also been changed while the rear end hosts a regular window as well as usual fog lights instead of the concept's F1-like arrangement within the rear diffuser. An image of the interior cabin has not been provided yet by Renault so we don't know what to expect from the production version due in 2016.

The revived Alpine will take the shape of a lightweight sportscar featuring a rear-wheel drive mid-engined layout with power coming from a 1.6- or a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder engine teamed up with a dual-clutch gearbox. It could weigh as little as 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs) and will the first of many other Alpine-branded models to come, including even crossovers/SUVs.

Purported 2016 Renault Alpine revealed in patent images – Report

2016-Renault-Alpine-near-production-concept-front-three-quarter-revealed-in-patent-images.webp

The WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) have uploaded a set of images that reveal a near-production version of the upcoming Renault Alpine sports car. This follows the unveil of the Alpine Celebration concept at the 2015 Le Mans. Compared to the Celebration concept, the new unnamed concept sports a filtered-down, less-aggressive look. At the back, it loses the rear wing and F1-like foglight in favor of a centrally-mounted large hexagonal chrome-finished exhaust tip and a simpler diffuser. It does retain the iconic double headlight arrangement and features conventional headlight clusters.

The production-spec model could be a less-expensive RWD model to compete against rivals like the Toyota GT-86. It may source power from a 1.6-liter turbo or a bigger 2.0-liter turbo from the Renault RS models, which are paired to a dual-clutch gearbox. For purists, Renault could also offer a manual transmission for spirited driving. Its target kerb weight of less than 1,100 kg will further improve the Alpine’s performance quotient. Renault could unveil the Alpine at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. Rumor has it that Renault will also add a performance-oriented SUV with the Alpine nameplate in due course.

At first I was like:

And then I saw the rear:

I was 100% sure that nothing perfect can come out of Renault these days.

Production Renault Alpine to feature 1.8 turbo with up to 300 PS
Will go on sale in 2016
When the production Renault Alpine goes on sale next year, it could be powered by a new 1.8-liter turbo petrol engine, according to a recent report.

Until now it was believed the sports car is going to feature a 1.6-liter unit with 250 PS (185 kW), but now Automotivpress says the Alpine (name not confirmed) will receive a new 1.8-liter turbo motor. Actually, this engine will be based on the current 1.6-liter turbo petrol of the Clio RS and will be available in three power levels – 250 PS (185 kW), 275 PS (205 kW) and 300 PS (220 kW).

The 1.8 TCe engine will share some of its components with the 1.6 TCe, but will have a revised computer, new cooling system and cylinder head. It will be mated to an improved automatic gearbox with two clutches.

Our source also says the same engine will be used in the next generation Renault Megane, as well as in a sporty Nissan Pulsar Nismo with 270 PS (199 kW).

That's my kind of road fun! Small engine, relatively high power and lightweight.

300 hp for an overall weight between 1200 and 1300 kg, that's where I would set the limits for a road car with a trunk and everyday practicality. It's spot on!:t-woohoo:

PS: It just shows that for a 4-seater, the Golf sized new Peugeot 308 GTi (270 hp and 1280 kg EU weight) is quite impressive indeed! :t-woohoo:

Renault bosses are planning to create a family of Alpine models if the upcoming sports car launch is a success.

Autocar understands the first car to be seen in the new family will be an SUV, and its development is already at an advanced stage ahead of a planned launch by 2018.

Although unconfirmed, it is suggested the Alpine SUV’s creation is strongly linked to the decision of partner Nissan to remodel its Z line as a sports crossover. Like the Nissan, the Alpine is expected to offer four-wheel drive via a hybrid powertrain.

Alpine bosses have long been open about the future of the brand. Speaking to Autocar at the Moscow motor show last year, Renault design boss Laurens van den Acker said there was “a hope” that the sports car would spearhead a range of Alpine-branded vehicles.

“As with many things we need to have a good business first. We all love Alpines but we all want to make money as well. Let’s get the first car right and then I hope I can start doing Alpines for the rest of my life,” he said.

Van den Acker is understood to have shelved plans to design a production version of the Renault DeZir concept in favour of working on the Alpine car. "Even I’d admit that’s not necessary," he said "I gladly defer DeZir in order
to do an Alpine."

Apparently there will be a show car representative the final version between 80 and 90 %.

I just wish they would have outdistanced the "hey, look at me, I'm a noughties sci-fi movie cockpit look".

This would be a stellar car, if ever released.
