They evaluated similar light units at BMW what with a larger unit with a slimmer L shape.
If you look at the Vision Future Luxury that shows how the future light unit will look especially with the advent of OLED technology a larger unit is not necessary.
Also look at the Hommage CSL to see how more specialised models can adapt to thinner light units.

I think in real life viewings the Volvo will look OK - The Coupe worked well and this is just that brought in to cope with more realistic purposes.

Well they are evaluating design ideas that use conventional shape but with L -Shape inside the actual unit so when lit up you just see the L.

If that's the what the S90 is going to look like, the front and profile look very promising. Though the rear lights look needlessly bulky, and when you look at te elegant job they did with the XC90's rear, it looks like a real miss.

Yes it is even when compared to the Audi Q7. The Audi does not get better.
The sad thing is if Saab went the way of Volvo we could have had something equally interesting, alas...

I am sure the Q7 is more than capable and objectively better than its predecessor, but I can't get past its ho-hum styling. I think it's a wasted effort.

I am an admirer of SAAB's and can only imagine what they'd be coming out with today.

I am curious to see how different the S/V90 interior is from the XC90. I hope it's even closer to the concepts.

I'm right with you, the next S90 looks like very good in the front but that rearlights kills the design from this part. I'd have preferred other design plus modern. I see in the scale two differents cars, one modern front joined to one old rear.

Do you know that the reference from new XC90 was the new X5. I hope they will do the same with new 7-Series..

Last weekend I saw the car @volvo hat has to have been the model for this, well, ehh... model... and it is god damn marvelous. The matte part is a wrap, but other than that it's leagues above the other offerings.

Yeah, from what I remember what the reason why they neutered it was to appeal to US tastes. Not all us Americans like super milquetoast designs.
