Report [Report] Lotus Emira (type 131)

My only complaint about the design of the car is that from a distance it looks a bit small, giving away that it’s not a full sized super car. However, the compact size is positive. It allows for easy manoeuvrability and practical usage in multi storey car parks. A lip spoiler and wing might visually elongate the car a bit.
You are definitely not alone. That said, Lotus already went out of their way to make this car bigger and more of a mainstream sports car. With the smaller engine and 2 seater arrangement it would not be the best engineering decision to make it any bigger. If they had gotten an V8 from AMG then this thing would probably grow another 15-20cm and match say a 488 in size but that may not be what Colin Chapman would have wanted.

The Emira is an appropriate stop gap between Lotus past and its future. It's basically keeping the bench warm for an all EV Lotus sportswear lineup.

Here's why I sold my Lotus Emira and bought this..

McLaren 650S Spider

Harry's gone on a power trip. Why bash Lotus now? Nothing has changed about the Emira now compared with 2 years ago. We knew that it was a heavily facelifted Evora with added creature comforts. Take it for what it is. No promises were made.

IMO it's the right car for the right person but lacks wide appeal. Although gorgeous like a supercar in person, the seating position is too high for the driving experience to feel immersive. In a straight line it doesn't impress but only shows its talent if you rag it aggressively through corners. Meanwhile an Exige and Elise feels special and engaging at all speeds regardless of road.

I was in London with my son this weekend to see the Foo Fighters, I was astonished at how many Emira's I saw. Certainly far more of them than McLarens

At a half to a third of the cost, that is somewhat to be expected, though I suppose it depends where in London you were.

I guess 99 % of them are sold in UK. I have only seen one of them here in Brussels. And I think I have only seen one Evora if I remember right, saw one in Madrid when I lived there.

Although the Lotus has less physical presence because of its size, the design is McLaren-ish but with better reliability. However, from bending the wheel there are big differences between a 570s and Emira. The McLaren has lamb doors and you sit at skateboard level. It's an event that makes it feel unmistakably like a supercar. In the Lotus you feel a bit like an imposture. The vibes in the cockpit don't match the exterior.

I would have an Exige 410 over all of them.
