This is author Christian Gebhardt's first Nordschleife-comparison. Maybe he will replace Horst von Saurma soon? :cautious:

The Times:
8.27 min - Opel Astra OPC (von Saurma: 8.20 min - on 19-inch-wheels)
8.36 min - Volkswagen Golf GTi Performance (von Saurma: 8.29 min)
8.39 min - Ford Focus ST
8.40 min - Renault Mégane RS (no Cup-package)

The ST's 0-100mph time is disappointing, almost 2 seconds slower than what Sport Auto measured at their first test... o_O

Why oh why do they use the manual S3? It has no chance against Mercedes gearbox.
It's less powerful, it has no chance even with DSG: according to AutoZeitung it's already 4 tenths behind up to 100 kph (4,4 and 4,8 s).

And exactly because it's less powerful, it should have the S-Tronic, to at least challange the AMG more. The Manual has no chance.

Still I take manual S3 anyday over DSG... btw must be first time there is no M135i in a test like this.

Without a doubt it would be the Golf for my in this test, it's the best overall car to live with.

P.S.
S3 Sportback S/Tronic quicker than the M135i x-Drive, didn't see that coming and the fact it's advantage wasn't off the line but beyond 100km/h is an even bigger surprise, took 0.4s out of the Beemer between 100-160km/h and a further 0.2s between 160-200km/h... wow, I wonder how much quicker it would have been by the 250km/h mark?

Indeed impressive. It's underpowered and weights more, and is still faster.

No Andres, in my opinion its a more polished product compared to the others, its build and materials used are superior. You don't have to agree with my opinion but that's how I view it and why for me its Golf all the way.

:dead: I couldn't be bothered to look up the actual figures, but we all know the S3 is considerably lighter than the xDrive M135i, by around 100 kg, you even wrote in your comparo. that the RWD M was heavier than the S3 --> http://www.germancarforum.com/community/threads/audi-s3-vs-bmw-m135i.46883/
Suffering from amnesia or posting deliberate disinformation?
and is still faster.
In a straight line, yes, however if we look to the cars' performance on the handling circuit, guess what, the BMW is fastest. I wonder, does it take more skill to make a powerful 4WD car fast in a straight line or around the bends..... hmmmm......
