SportAuto: Audi Q7 V12 TDI vs. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Wow, I see that now... it is!.... It is actually faster than a CLK63 and M3!!!

Yeah, until you change back a gear or two in the high revving M3/CLK63
80 km/h to 100 km/h in 4th gear in an M3 simply is UNHEARD of. More like 2nd or maybe 3rd gear if you want to go fast.

It's just awesome…torque is everything!! :bowdown::bowdown:

The acceleration of the Porsch is fast, yes, but not as brutal as the one of the V12 TDI!!

As expected, when comparing a V12 to a V8 regardless of the fuel type.
The higher cylinder always outperforms the lower cylinder engine at high speeds.

I'm really disappointed with Cayenne Turbo S because it is weaker than much less powerful Cayenne GTS in 5th and 6th gears:
Turbo S does 80-120km/h in 5th and 6th gears in 8.8s and 16.2s
GTS does it in 7.6s and 10.1s

Turbo S has 750nm at 2250 RPM
GTS has 500nm at 3500RPM

5th and 6th gear ratios for Turbo S: 0.86 - 0.69 + 3.27 final drive
5th and 6th gear ratios for GTS: 1.00 - 0.84 + 4.10 final drive

So because of better gearing and absence of Turbo lag(it is naturally aspirated), GTS has better tractability in low revs despite having 250nm less torque.I didn't expect such a poor in-gear performance from Turbo S.:t-hands:
In quick overtaking situations, Q7 V12 TDI will eat Cayenne Turbo S.

Don't even think that way because M3 is quite strong in such tests and can beat many cars which have much bigger engines and a lot more torque and are even lighter. For example:
M3 does 80-100km/h in 4th gear in 2.3s (pretty quick)
Corvette C6 does it in 2.4s

Corvette has a much bigger engine(6.0L vs 4.0L) and a lot more torque(546nm vs 400nm) and is also lighter than M3(1492kg vs 1608kg) but is still as fast as M3.
Why???? because M3 is much better geared.

I'm almost as surprised as you are but you have to admit, the Cayenne Turbo S has some seriously long gearing. This is necessary for two reasons:
a. To allow for better fuel economy and emissions at cruising speeds through lowered rpm
b. To use that enormous power in order to get high top speeds (for an SUV).

In any event, in the real world, no-one's going to lug the engine in 6th gear below 2000 rpm - it's not what people want from an automatic, rather: Kick-down, whoosh, bye bye...

I totally agree with you but Turbo S shouldn't be slower than GTS in in-gear performance with all that torque. They should shorten the gearing a little.I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
