XF [Spy Shots] 2016 Jaguar XF (X260)

The Jaguar XF (X250) is an executive luxury sports saloon car that was manufactured and marketed by the British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars. Launched in Autumn 2007 as a replacement for the S-Type, the XF was designated internally as the X250. The X250 was succeeded by the X260 in 2015.

Second-generation Jaguar XF spied for first time

Will likely grow in size to distance from XE
The second generation Jaguar XF has been spied for the first time while undergoing testing ahead of a planned 2016 release.

Jaguar is busy right now putting the finishing touches on the 2015 XE baby sedan but as you can see work has already started on the larger XF which in a couple of years will reach second generation. The new XF is bound to grow in size in order to distance itself from the XE so the stretched wheelbase will grant more room inside the cabin, especially for rear passengers who will enjoy the additional legroom.

The second-gen XF is currently in its early development stage so it shouldn't come as a surprise the prototype seen here is wearing a full body camouflage. However, we still get to see the LED daytime running lights which look quite similar to those fitted onto the upcoming XE. At the back, it seems the XF will adopt an Audi A5 Sportback-like liftback configuration replacing the current model's regular sedan trunk opening. Both the XE and second-gen XF will ride on Jaguar's newly developed lightweight iQ[Al] platform which will also underpin a production version of the C-X17 concept crossover.

As a result of making the switch to an all-new platform, we won't be too surprised if the 2016 Jaguar XF will lose as much as 100 kg (220 lbs). Both rear- and all-wheel drive systems will probably be available and matched with an updated variant of the 9-speed gearbox developed by ZF and implemented first in the 2014 Range Rover Evoque.

The second generation Jaguar XF will likely be introduced in 2016 at a major auto show.

Looks like a bigger version of the XE. 2016 is going to be a big year for Jaguar. The SUV/Crossover can't be far behind.

I find the overall profile rather attractive.

In fact, the rear end is one that would befit the Audi A7 Sportback. Far more than what is currently the case.

O.K....perhaps shave 10-15mm from greenhouse height and a wee bit less rear overhang.

All-new Jaguar XF spied 'Ring testing ahead of possible 2016 launch
Bigger yet lighter
Jaguar's second generation of the mid-size XF sedan has been spied undergoing preliminary testing on the Nürburgring.

On sale since 2007, the XF is starting to show its age and Jaguar needs to make the model bigger taking into account the XE is now out so there has to be more room between the two in order to better target different segments. Jaguar has the right recipe for that as testing of a new XF has started and as you can see it will be considerably larger and feature a stretched wheelbase so we should expect a roomier cabin with extra legroom for rear passengers.

The prototype seen here looks like a bigger XE which shouldn't come as a surprise as the styling won't be very different. One other big change aside from the enlarged size is the implementation of a sloping rear with a more practical liftback configuration thus replacing the current model's sedan layout.

The second-gen Jaguar XF will likely ride on the same iQ[Al] platform as the smaller XE and is expected to shave off as much as 100 kg (220 lbs). Rear-wheel drive will be standard but at an additional cost an AWD system will be offered. Details about the engine lineup are not available at this point but will likely include the supercharged V6 3.0-liter along with a series of four-cylinder Ingenium gasoline and diesel motors. The engine range will probably be topped by a supercharged V8 5.0-liter in the XFR-S which in the current generation puts out 542 bhp (405 kW) & 680 Nm (502 lb-ft).

A public debut of the new generation Jaguar XF will probably occur at a major auto show in 2016.

"The prototype seen here looks like a bigger XE which shouldn't come as a surprise as the styling won't be very different." Yeah.
So the next gen Xj will look like a bigger XF?:oldman:
At least, they should have changed the tail lights.

It looks like an larger XE and evolution of the current XF styling I am not sure if this will be good or not. Let's hope they modernize it so that it does at least look fresh, unlike the XE which looks too much like the current XF.

Exclusive images show bold new look for Jaguar XF, promising less weight and improved agility
Jaguar’s assault on the German establishment is about to step up a gear with the new XF, due on sale in 2015. With the F-Type tempting away Porsche customers in their droves, the XE about to do battle with the BMW 3 Series, an Audi Q5 SUV rival in the pipeline and even an updated XJ arriving in the coming months, the brand already has plenty on its plate – yet it’s still found time to develop an all-new XF executive car.

We’ve seen spy shots of it testing in recent weeks, and a source has confirmed it will debut sooner than we think – in spring 2015, with a launch in late summer next year.

Our exclusive images show how the BMW 5 Series rival will sharpen up its image by taking cues from the XE, with a squarer, more upright grille and an aggressive front bumper. But beyond the new styling, Jag plans to make it the lightest, best-handling, most efficient and technologically advanced car in its class.

The newcomer will sit on a stretched version of the XE’s iQ[Al] chassis, constructed from more than 75 per cent aluminium. As a result, it will be stiffer and more agile, but also significantly lighter than the current four-cylinder diesel XF, which weighs in at 1,735kg. Shedding around 100kg would see the car comfortably undercut the 1,695kg BMW 520d and 1,660kg Audi A6 Ultra, although four-wheel-drive versions – due a few months later than the rear-drive models – will weigh a little more.

Knock-on effects of the XF’s weight loss will be much sharper handling – and this will be further boosted by the lightweight aluminium rear suspension (reducing unsprung mass) and double-wishbone front suspension derived from the F-Type. The electronic steering will also be quickened up for swifter reactions.

Despite driving like a much smaller car, and weighing significantly less, the new XF is expected to be bigger than the model it replaces, creating more breathing space between itself and the XE. More rear legroom and even more boot capacity than the current 540 litres will make it the most spacious choice in its class.

With Jaguar’s £500m investment in its new Wolverhampton engine plant, it’s no surprise the XF will make use of the new Ingenium engine family. Details of a new 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder are yet to be revealed, but a new 2.0-litre turbodiesel will make up the bulk of new XF sales. This will deliver 161bhp or 178bhp in the XE, with the most efficient model promising 75mpg-plus economy and CO2 emissions of 99g/km. So this engine should make the XF the cleanest car in its class – toppling the A6 Ultra and Lexus GS 300h.

Private buyers looking for a little more oomph will be offered the latest 3.0-litre V6 diesel, plus the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 from the F-Type in various states of tune, with a near-600bhp V8-powered XF SVR earmarked for later in the car’s lifecycle.

Tech fans won’t be disappointed, either, with the current model’s ageing interface replaced by Jaguar’s new InControl infotainment and connectivity system, first seen on the XE and based around an eight-inch central screen.

Highlights include a crisp, colour head-up display, seamless integration for Apple and Android smartphones and an app that will let you pre-heat or cool the interior, unlock the doors and locate the car in a crowded car park.

The XF will initially be available only as a saloon, with an estate following later – that’s because the current XF Sportbrake will continue for a while as it’s only been on sale for two years.

A huge variety of trims will be available, although a range-topping ‘S’ spec will be reserved for the fastest V6 model, while the rest of the line-up will be offered in Prestige trim for those after luxury, and R-Sport for buyers who prefer to be noticed, with big wheels and more dramatic bodywork.

Love it, the XE looks all the world like a scaled down XF and now the new XF is potentially going to look like a larger XE.
