XF [Spy Shots] 2016 Jaguar XF (X260)

The Jaguar XF (X250) is an executive luxury sports saloon car that was manufactured and marketed by the British automobile manufacturer Jaguar Cars. Launched in Autumn 2007 as a replacement for the S-Type, the XF was designated internally as the X250. The X250 was succeeded by the X260 in 2015.

I like basic, I find my wifes A6 to also have a basic simple interior, everything is where it's supposed to be without being over designed, F10, or a mess W212. The A6 also has a big LCD screen in the middle of the dash with panel of controls lower down.

Hmmm. Overall it doesn't look as good as the competition. The sat nav screen looks like something from the 90's, and it's far too low down.

I do have two slightly positive comments. The XE interior isn't as bad in real life as it looks in the photos, although that doesn't mean it's close to class leading. And this new XF interior appears to have some kind of virtual LCD instrument display, which if true, will certainly place it higher in terms of modernity compared to the XE.

The screen being lower down on the dash doesn't concern me. If it's just me in the car I usually set everything how I want it before I leave, otherwise the info screen in instrument cluster has more than enough information for me and I use the controls on the steering wheel. I hardly ever look at the main LCD screen in any car I've driven after I've started off. Looking at it takes your eyes off the road.

Notice the lack of trim acorsh the dash and on the door panels. Current XF has way more trim, giving you the impression you are paying for something that´s worth it.

When I see the XE interior, and now this, I can only think about cost cutting.

If you look closely, there is actually a substantial amount of trim running across the dash:

It's the design scheme shown here that really kills the photo (and our impressions).

Is that really trim? If it is then I change my comment above as I would not be valid.

Now that you mention it, it may just be something like "secondary" trim, as the "primary" trim is clearly seen near the door handles and the transmission selector.

Something like the large band of metal-looking material running across the dash over here:

Just to clarify, my point here is that the similar colors of the leather and the trim really makes this interior look dull. :)

i don't have too much issue with the screen being lower than the line of sight if the info, especially the navigation, is made redundant on the screen and HUD ahead of the driver.

The main reason to look at the screen whilst driving is not to set up the car, but for following directions on the sat nav.

Why I have a screen between the dials of both my cars which gives me driving instructions, I don't need to look at the main screen, it's better out of line of sight IMO.

Not as warm, fluffy or elegant as the Germans.
It`s minimalistic and rather stark looking which might be the approach Jaguar is deliberately taking on. Car companies are slowly creating their own signature design schemes unique to themselves.
I cannot say I like it either but it`s all Jaguar. Slight design improvements like the center air vents and symmetric switch gear in the center console stack are a welcome touch and look better than the current version in my opinion.

That's similar to my view on it. Jaguar interior are now non-expressive in the sense that they are not too minimal nor over-designed. Ian Callum appears to be leaving the drama for the exterior and exhaust note.

I'm not bored by the interior but neither am I appalled by it.
