Spy Shots [Spy Shots] 2016 Renault Scénic

It looks really interesting and much better than most MPV's. It certainly doesn't look like an MPV anymore, the curving roof line and side glass together with high ground clearance give it a look of a crossover/SUV.

The only thing is 20inch tyres will be damn expensive to replace. I have 17inch tyres on my E90 BMW and also VW CC and they not that cheap, so cant imagine the price of these 20inch, ouch!

Btw why is it still discussed in a spyshot thread ? Come on, let's show the french some respect

Are you serious ? Anyway it looks very good.

Very serious. It was part of the conceptual idea, but the Renault bosses wanted them standard so the whole car (suspension and whatnot) have been specifically tuned for 20".

And why would you want to replace the rims @Rolf ? Nobody does that. Particularly not the people who buy a family van.

Aah, ok my bad.

I doubt they'll be that expensive though. And even if they were, it will be much cheaper than anything German.

I read somewhere that they have secured correct prices with at least three tyre suppliers. This will be the only wheel option across the range => every single car will be sold on 20 inches tyres, to keep the same visual identity.

You will be able to change rims though, and rims will have some plastic inserts to change the look of the car (you can buy them as aftermarket for instance if you get bored). Saw that on French TV this week-end... style was not impressive for those add-ons though.

It´s a great idea.

I would even go as far as calling this a game changer.

I am talking about the tyres, not rims. If the tyres are worn and need replacing 20inch tyres will be very expensive, no matter what brand or country origin. They not a standard tyre size on most cars anyway and will be difficult to source. I bet alot of tyre fitment centers wont have 20inch in stock. Most high performance cars, such as BMW M and Mercedes AMG models come with 18 or 19inch rims, so keeping sets of 20inch tyres in stock won't make sense for most tyre fitment centers.

It's all part of the plan. 20" is going to be the new 17". They are not going to ask crazy prices for new tires when there is no other choice. This is not a supercar.

I still think 20inch tyres is an overkill for an MPV, they will have to make the wheelarch cutaways very big and they will affect the ride quality for sure, but it seems like its a marketing stunt from most car manufacturers, they want tyres on all models to get bigger and bigger with each generation of car.

It's not a marketing stunt, this car isn't coming with 16" standard and with 20" in TV commercials.. And it doesn't affect ride quality when the whole car is specifically designed for them.

As for overkill. Nah, it actually compliments the high and big design of these kind of cars. Makes them look smaller and less bulky.
